Difference between Ford and GM

Detroit News "GM's chief digital officer no longer with the company".

GM takes swift actions. Ford?

Quality control issues at Boeing, CEO is leaving. Ford?

We need a best-in-class leadership and best-in-class quality.

The OEMs don't really sell vehicles that the average person can afford anymore.

Well, the foreign brands that still sell small cars / sedans come the closest. But even those small vehicles have become much more expensive in the last few years.

This is the new normal. House prices won't ever come down. Grocery prices won't ever come down. And neither will vehicle prices. Certainly nowhere near pre-pandemic levels.

People get angry when they see that, but greed will always win. The big wigs at the top of every corporation - and their shareholders - will never allow their profits to decrease. Raise prices or reduce headcount or offshore are the only outcomes they'll allow.

bqc+1rKjcOKW You are dead on with your comments. Quality has taken a back seat to TVM. Ford use to play to win now they just follow. Seen not only myself but other engineers report a problem only to have it cost to much or we will miss the milestone.
I retired a few years back. Do not miss it. Feel bad for the people that are still there. In 2000 Ford sold 4.2mn units in NA. They are down to 2.4 mn. last year. company still acts like they are building 4mn units. Way to much management overhead.
Ford once stood for product the average guy could afford. That does not apply anymore. I know I will get flack for saying this but Mustang only sold about 47k units last year. why keep Flat Rock open if numbers are not there?

The former ‘GMer’ is probably just bitter. Totally different world over there vs Ford. Heck, look at the difference in postings on the Ford vs GM pages on thelayoff.com. Completely different work places and management imo.

The GM and Boeing execs will be hired by Ford as "consultants ". Just wait. LMFAO at this dysfunctional place

GM su-ks. Ford is like a super Dyson the size of a jumpjet su-king.

It's all relative.

At ford you get a promotion and get to blame the gsrs for the mistakes

Example the id--t behind the current gen ford explorer

As a former GMer, let me share with you that the grass is NOT greener over there. Take the front wheel drive Camero as an example. Did you see it? Know how much was spent in it? Yeah, it's just as big of a mess.

There are a lot of senior leaders that need to be dealt with swiftly. They have cost the company more than any leadership team in the history of Ford. We used to have the foresight to stop programs dead in their track that were abysmal. For the last 10 years it has been nothing but an escalation of commitment fallacy. When you flag issues that either the physics/engineering never made sense or the business case was a dud at initial concept, they still pushed forward. It has cost us dearly: warranty spend, lost customers who will never step foot in a Ford showroom again, and probably one of the worst showroom lineups in the history of the company. We are Edsel tier with this EV push…

There is absolutely no accountability at Ford. Gates are always 'green' until the program is with PVT at a stop-ship.
