New Gracenote Meeting Next Week (03/25/24)

Pop-up meeting on the calendar for next Monday wanting to discuss operational stuff and alignment with company pillars. Anyone else seeing it? More layoff announcements coming, or confirming the plan to sell off parts of the company?

Tone of the meeting invite seems a bit ominous, but maybe that's due to being in such a toxic environment now. Looked to be for all across Gracenote, and not one of the normal quarterly progress meetings.

Difference is high performers working around incompetent leaders had enjoyment of tech freedom and remuneration rewards in the past, now overall gracenote culture is in sad state. Suddenly leaders getting sidelined earlier want to "showcase" their d-mb ideas in the name of work. You can see intelligent people are punching in their days without any interest to follow these d-mb ideas.

The thing about GN is that it has been a clique for decades which has enabled a lot of poor performers to continue here. The small percentage of high performers have to work around these people. I currently work on a large team of people who should have been let go years ago but because of nepotism nothing was ever done about their bad habits and lack of professionalism. I am excited to move on from this place just waiting for my severance like everyone else.

(just my gut feeling about GN and Sports layoffs and Q2, i could be wrong, just remembering that bloomberg article someone posted about nielsen trying to offload non core business)

i only know that some managers in Sports & GN have new layoff lists as of late March and this week (i’ve seen the lists) so something will start to happen very soon. as for how broad teams are being hit, i have no idea, i’m not that familiar with GN and Sports and overall department sizes.

it’s going to be a bit slow for Sports too
(at least at first)
I think end of Q2 is when a lot will be gone if both divisions (GN and Sports) aren’t sold.

Gracenote layoffs are long overdue. They were not aggressive last time with gracenote for all I know

Thank you Karthik for your contribution. Now back to your hole in the ground.

SB - you outed yourself with your post. Maybe if you weren't such a miserable human you'd figure out you're the leper of the group because of your horrible attitude and the way you consistently belittle people.

To all being impacted next week then beyond … congrats, and hope you land on more solid ground.

The new Nielsen doesn’t deserve you, with the old Nielsen barely worth hanging on to..

I’m a manager being invited next week to learn how to lay off my team. Then employees will get their HR invites to their separation meetings.

Did the letter from HR actually say 'hey, you'll be laid off next week', or did they just imply that?

Yeah gracenote isn't what it used to be. I am doing my best to make it to the let go list. Tired of incompetence around me. People not knowing basics are running the show. New Hiring is complete sham. Nobody is their right mind is going to join this dying company.

more layoffs next week

got an hr email about it tonight
no idea who yet
no idea yet if anyone is training replacements or just being cut

looks like multiple departments, from those on the invite list and looking at their names in the directory

and it’s broad, a bunch of different job types

i did a mgmt training program at nielsen and it is helping me with interviews now. so yeah milk it all you can, and try to ignore the nielsen side of it.

Let me start by saying trust me, I’m not on the side of Nielsen right now.

However, a few years ago I was in a program very similar to GROW within Nielsen. I learned a lot from that program, and even took the job title I got from the project I ran within the program to leverage myself in interviews and on my resumes to get into a MUCH better departmental role in a more stable company. Milk it, milk it, milk it.

Sure, you won’t get to “grow” within Nielsen, but using that as experience and to talk about it in interviews even if it’s a small spin on the truth will get you far.

I don’t think anyone is accepting any favors in trade for being employed. This is all about greed and lack of empathy.

The cheerleading in the face of mass layoffs and offshoring of roles is indeed sickening.

There was a member of GROW this week who is being laid off … who is now on LinkedIn saying “how amazing!” an opportunity would be that just popped up on another team.

I mean … they didn’t offer it to you? Come on now, you’re a GROW graduate! SMH.

These people should win an Emmy for their acting and kissing of bo--y in the face of losing their jobs. I have a lot less respect for these people now, as they have zero professional morals and will do anything to su-k up and keep their miserable jobs with their miserable employer.

Clueless TL encouraged us to do the new ignite program yesterday. She came from a Dept that was just laidoff. She thinks she can be chummy and a cheerleader for this garbage company but its embarassing to watch. I want to know what she pulled to miss the ax. Makes me sick

People who have been given a last day should be allowed to end their employment with dignity. Stop making them attend Town Halls and meetings unrelated to their final assignments. Have a heart.

Training your replacement is like being asked to dig a hole and then having someone push you into it.

You can’t expect people that are still employed to stop doing their jobs. Now they can be more sensitive to the people that have been given a date and are having to train their replacements.

Asking them if they are ok with it is not the answer, it is up to the leaders to take the extra steps needed to respect the impacted people and show some empathy. Discussing plans that do not include them is cruel and selfish.

Listen carefully to the people whose jobs are not getting outsourced, they paint a picture of future success and have so quickly forgotten about those that are gone. Out of sight, out of mind

Gracenote engineering is about to get disintegrated I feel. gcc model only succeded because of competent leadership from high cost locations. Leadership in gcc is pathetic in both technical as well as non technical skills

While I cannot speak for everyone, many of us who remain no longer care about the business. We are here for the paycheck and will give Nielsen the bare minimum effort.

Whenever SD, JF or CP start talking I instantly know something bad is coming or is about to be communicated. Not a sliver of emotion or inspiration on any of their faces.

SD has been basically telling everyone “to be grateful for the little that we give you” for at least the last 18 months. I tune out when he tunes in as there’s no apparent meat on the bones for US workers … while all of the offshore teams receive gift baskets and the like for every holiday they celebrate, which is many.

Nielsen / Gracenote NPS scores tanking with the brace called Gracenote starting to crack. Seems like the company is already seeing the problems with all of the talks of offshoring and backpedaling already.

Nothing constructive was said. A load of justification for a tool that is only making doing the job worse in every sense.
No real mention of which teams are being offshored so we don't know more about that. We can only tell by the awful quality of incoming data that needs fixing by the still existing teams.

Seeing that one on Monday then another smaller departmental team meeting afterwards, so maybe the end is near?

Hopefully so. Too much of this uncertainty BS anymore. The carousel of exiting “leaders” and employee layoffs making it hard to even be motivated to clock in, much less perform at the highest level.

The discount CEO Karthik and his skeleton crew of rejected low level managers and McDonalds level workers can have this mess. I’m sure the low expectations as a company will now be met with open arms in areas of the world where $11.25 hr is a godsend.

Good luck with that, and please speed up the layoffs.
