Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

2024 Layoffs, VSP, etc.

I would think since there were no layoffs before the bonus payout we might be in good shape to avoid any in 2024, as long as prices for oil stay up. So it looks like business as usual for 2024. I would think Oxy would still be a candidate for being acquired with our reserves and production numbers looking good. With the debt being paid down it may make us look a little more attractive. I read somewhere that Chevron balked at making a run for us back in 2022 when we were in a lot worse place.

Good posts. I think it could happen no earlier than very close to year end after some of the previous mentioned takeovers occured. Having gone through a bunch of these I have to mention that the bullet that takes you out comes from a company you never expected.

Yep...It was business as usual for us at APC in the early spring of 2019. Just finished the performance appraisals received salary adjustments when the wheels came off in April. Never a safe time...

Oxy is probably safe from acquisition due to Exxon waiting for Pioneer deal to complete in Q2 before dealing with the Hess/Chevron/Guyana drama in the second half of the year. Chevron also wont be able to do anything until the Hess situation is cleared up. Not a lot of other options out there. Bigger risk would be 2025 depending on how the election ends up. Republicans winning would increase odds of a bigger deal getting approved.

Oil prices are going up currently. It's almost April. Things can change fast but I don't see layoffs in the forecast for Oxy in 2024. Too many things could change by 2025 so the future is always on the table.
