The real announcement to watch for is Intel's $10 billion Chips Act Grant in the pipeline. 2-3 new fabs and some real employment opportunities for those who are unhappy at GF. GF will get the chips act money funneled for the overseas fabs and investment and watch for SLT to start moving stock options after today's spike in stock price.
- 2 Fab will never get built. GF will "say" they used the money to build out Fab 8.1 which we can't fill already consistently with high profit products. Unless it is clearly stated by govt GF will find loopholes not to build Fab 8.2. Then we have to ask what is this taxpayer money really being used for???
Also in the news Intel in talks with Biden admin for 10 Billion in Grant and subsides as of 2 days ago. GF is small crippled fish in a very big pond.
Ask yourself, does the Chips act money change the employee culture or SLT at GF? Does that grant money translate into a better work environment or better compensation for the worker? Will your managers suddenly become competent and honest?
As Tom’s said repeatedly, 8.2 only happens with all three components- products we can make that customers will buy, government funding, and customer funding. We’ve nailed down the last two, now we have to develop/qualify these products. Hard task when our best people left or were laid off years ago.
