Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Skewed Messages

I just want to be clear that I’m no fan of Schwab as a company since I was impacted by the layoff. But the messages on here seem quite skewed because they cannot always be relied on. The anonymity makes it so we cannot always trust what we read.

I don’t think the company is in such a dire state as many are complaining about. It is too big to fail. I also know multiple very high performers who did get wfh exceptions. Sorry to burst the bubble but many of us were let go because our leaders (Director and above) didn’t vouch for and defend us. That’s it.

I think Schwab is struggling I mean I heard they took a 80 billion dollar loan and plan to pay it back in the next 5 years so that will probably stop the growth

You’re right. it is anonimous anyone can write whatever they like, lie, troll etc.
Having said that, there are pearls here, you just need to know how find them.

Once you put your critical glasses on, figuring out which posts have more merit than others is easy. If it sounds like bull it’s likely a bull - just skip it. Look for the patterns and keywords (where there's smoke, there's fire). Watch the people’s engagement on posts. If it’s detailed enough, but not too pushy, than it’s likely a true insider post.

I don't think leadership doesn't know how to fix the employee morale issue... I don't think they care/want to. They have the upper hand for the moment-- as soon as the job market balances a bit more towards employees, I think they will feel the pain of treating people so poorly.

One of Schwab’s biggest issue right now is employee morale. There is no quick fix for this and leadership seems unable to effectively manage it. There is a level of elitism, fake humility, etc that is palatable. Without broad-based trust the company will continue to falter. It won’t fail…but it won’t perform as well as it could.

The company is in trouble in the same way Boeing is.

Too big with few alternatives doesn’t make a company good. If anything it makes it more mediocre.

Layoffs here are used to get rid of protected staff and implement political payback.
