It's not just the lack of job security and the eroding benefits. I don't want my reputation aligned with 3M. I don't want to have my future career burdened by the years I spent here. Yes, I'm at the point where I'm ashamed of the company I work for and I don't want to be associated with it in any way.

Me too.... I used to be proud of working at 3M.
When I first started (well over 25 years ago) I would tell people where I worked and they would often say "that's a great company". I have stopped telling people where I work because it is embarrassing.
There is no concern from 3M for the environment, the military veterans, the customers, the shareholders, and especially the employees.
Leave the cesspool and never look back.
In leaving 3M my hand was forced, for over two years I asked for support with a change in personal circumstances and in those two years there was a significant decline in my mental health due to the uncertainty. It is a toxic environment. Living and working under such a cloud is not healthy for anyone.
It is sometimes hard to leave the comfort zone, but for your own health grasp the nettle and look after yourself, they will not be considering your welfare.
Leave before the stress takes its toll on your mental and physical health. Many of my colleagues are on anti-anxiety medication. I heard of several people on other teams taking medical leave as a result of health issues due to the workplace harassment and stress.
I too, am speaking from the outside and concur with comments from SXJ and XNM. I was very apprehensive about leaving 3M as I didn't think any other company could provide the breadth of experience and access afforded by 3M. I was wrong. It will be okay, but it will be an adjustment as we are used to operating based on politics, always watching your back. Many places operate much different and have healthier environments.
Good luck to you.
I agree with you, OP. I evacuated the dumpster fire that is 3M and came out on top. For the record I'm a worker bee and still landed with a raise upwards of 20%. Start looking for greener pastures. They're out there. Best of luck to you!
Good luck! Speaking from the outside, it’s amazing on the other side! While it wasn’t my choice to leave the company, it was the best thing that ever happened. I am so much happier!!! AND I don’t have that constant pit in my stomach anymore.
