Financial Benefits of Differential Rating

Curious as to what are the benefits of differential rating? Any additional VCIP payout or stock for the 1s and 2s?

Getting 1 ratings get you points. Getting stock gets you points. Getting promoted gets you points. Getting large recognition gets you points. Getting lots of points help get you on high pot list. Being on high pot list gets you the best opportunities and exposure and ratings and promotions and stock. And round and round you go. If you you don’t make the list in your first 5 to 10 years then forget about being on the LF. The impact on lifetime earnings is hard to fathom.

If you receive a “differential “ rating (a 1 or 2) then the company stresses how important it is and how these ratings will make a big difference in your career and compensation. If you receive a 3 as most people do, the company downplays the significance of the higher rating and reassures you that you’re doing a great job. If you receive a 4 and certainly if you get a 5 then you are toast and need to reconsider your future at COP.

The reality is that 1/2 of 18s get almost half of their salary in the form of RSUs. 100% of 19s are eligible to receive 52% in RSUs. The stock is on top of larger merit and enhanced VCIP. The differential ratings get you to these SGLs and the difference in compensation is life changing.

What is plus score and how does that determine promotions? Is that the current salary vs midpoint for the grade?

Differential ratings count toward your plus score. Plus scores drive promotions. They are also used during layoff discussions.

Yes to both.
Plus you get the false sense of security associated with feeling valued. BUt it doesn’t actually mean you won’t be axed.

Additional 15% for 2s and 20% for 1s.
Same applies for RSUs
