Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Thoughts on Finance Townhall?

Got the mandatory call back for Tue/Wed/Thu starting in March. What were your takeaways?

@vji+1r4OjOhk. It doesn't matter what people will demand. Ford doesn't care. Do you think that in demand technology skills of today are any different than in demand skills of the past? Once jobs and pay increases, schools all over the world start churning out grads in the latest field. Companies like Ford are perfectly happy to dump higher paid employees. They already have done so. Do you think Model E is going to maintain current staffing levels? Do you not understand what the Ford+ transformation is?

My group got a full RTO in May 2020. So so whining and do what you're told or quit and move on.

DF said "remote" will be used on a exception basis. Not sure about other groups.

Be happy the Train Station is three years behind schedule and you don’t have to go work there and pay Detroit city income taxes on 60% of your wages.

It’s meaningless, every team will be allowed exceptions and PD famously has 80% of its teams listed as exception whether it is for rules or processes. This is why quality su-ks in our software, too many teams given exceptions.

More people will be out with more colds and flu and COVID more often.

Information workers will balk at attending late-night and early-morning meetings with international teams.

Computers and cell phones will be shut off at COB and won’t be turned back on again until people sit down at their hotel desks.

Employees will pressure the company to pay them more in compensation for the extra time and expense required for commuting, and for the inconvenience. (Employees were willing to accept lower pay in many cases, in exchange for the advantages. They will want more for the disadvantages.)

More blah blah blah
Nothing materially has changed at FC since the touted smart redesign
Except substantially more jobs shifted (and shifting) to India, and continual brain drain.
On a downhill glide to irrelevance and picking up speed.
Everyone should decide when and how they will dismount while they can think clearly.

Ford MUST demonstrate that they are part of the “team” by fighting to bring back the good old days where paying for office workers to sit in cubicles logged into WebEx or Teams meetings made sense. That “team” is a cabal of wealthy elites.

This is all driven by commercial real estate investors, banks and landlords who are losing their shorts.

Companies that have agile and competent management have figured out how to manage employees working remotely. They will have a significant competitive advantage. But regional banks that have plowed their QE (quantitative easing) windfall into office buildings over the past few years are panicking.

The takeaways are going back to work on location instead of your PJ's on the couch. Boo Hoo Once your all back then it will be 5 days a week and finally a mass layoff. Good luck to you all.
