Thread regarding American Electric Power Co. Inc. layoffs

Activist Investors on AEP’s Board

For those of you who don’t follow finance, famous activist investor, Carl Icahn, gained representation on AEP’s board yesterday. It likely doesn’t mean anything good.

Icahn became famous by acquiring enough shares of a company to be a threat, and then forcing the company to sell off assets to increase the share price. But what can AEP sell?

The company is already trying to sell retail and onsite. Don’t know how those are going. Will they try to sell minority stakes in the regulated OpCos? Maybe try to sell Kentucky again? Anything to get the balance sheet right I suppose.

How do tech layoffs from Google, Amazon affect AEP as a whole? That whole article seems fishy to me. I'm wondering if it's not been rewritten 20 times with a different company's name replaced with 'American Electric Power'.
