India technical center experience?

Visiting from the bp board here....we're just starting a "Technical Services India" technical center. Heard XOM started something similar to this years ago. What has the experience been? Is it just an attempt to replace expensive technical staff in the US with cheap Indian labor? Or did it bring real value?

Regardless of what India has to offer, the point is that EM wants to be cheap even in a cheap country.
The best Indian graduates get overseas diplomas and then work for western salaries.
The second tier of Indian graduates work in India for companies which pay above average and care about retaining talent.
And then there are outsourcing companies like EM, who will always pay the average or less and care only about reporting savings to the big bosses, while not giving a fig about quality. Guess hat kind of Indian graduate they will hire?

Nothing about it makes sense. In this case I assure you. You don’t get what you pay for even if it is cheap. They beat on what engineers are left to make it work and pip them if they talk back and tell the truth. All local managers are beating up on local engineers to make it sound like a success but trust me it’s horrible

Cheap labor and not very good. Culturally they don’t have what it takes to do complex work or maintain cost and schedule. Good followers but not good leaders.

India support is great because you can pay them in Apple Store and Google Play gift cards

India support is the best, try it and you will not regret it. That's why XOM is on top. Wink wink

Don’t worry, BP has reputation of sc--wing (no pun intended) everything. You will be fine. Also - I don’t have crayons to explain to you.

Lots of people make due without decent tech support. You'll be fine.

You may want to clarify that you are not a BP board of director member, but from the BP Layoff “board”, otherwise folks on here will work you over pretty good!
