I was part of the Cenovus HR team in 2015/16 when the directive was to layoff anyone close or over 50 as a priority due to cost savings.
The older generation had been there too long and cost too much.

By 2016 we had no one over 50 unless they were VP level.

Suncor is posting all jobs for students. Eventually Suncor wants to “rejuvenate” their organization and pay less to younger generation by getting rid of 60+ folks. Cenovus got bigger by hiring more and more people. But there were no new acquisitions. Tells you how efficient Cenovus is. Not a good sign if oil prices will go down.
