Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Will opening HR case keep my job?

Since layoffs are coming mid Feb. Does opening HR case help in getting out of the LR list?

LOA does not protect you from a LR, that’s plain stupid tactic to destroy your career

On LOA currently for the next 2 months just to duck this LR. Will go on LOA again from mid July to mid September for the same reason. Remember if it don't fit you must acquit. If you're on LOA, you can't be LR'ed.

If Cisco didn't have a culture of LR (sc--wing people to make more profit), HR would be half the size. Fellow employees, just look in our directory under Fran!

And most of HR is outsourced and doesn't even show up in the directory. All the little HR worker bees who prepare the separation packages that the managers give us and the letters that the manager has to read from are all prepared by the outsourced team.

Amazing, let's focus on US geo because different countries may have different labor laws. In US, You can be notified even you are in LOA, and in all cases (to my knowledge) the longest you will stay is when the LOA ends. In addition, I think your RSU vesting will stop when you are in LOA in most cases. Your position will be eliminated if you are part of LR. I do not think you will have any way to avoid the unavoidable. Yes, in some countries, you are not even allowed to notify employee on certain LOAs.

"Leave of absence is the only way. One of my coworker did it twice to escape layoff."

That's a good idea, but how could you possibly know which date they will contact me? We cannot just request PTO via Workday on the very same day they are about to approach us to remove us, right? That way, that is not realistic.

Hard to say. Remain pot-valiant.

Your manager make the decision,so please share part of your salary to him and he must want to keep your job.

Can't you open an HR case before the layoff. When you get hit, you claim retribution because you open an HR case?

Just tell them you don't want to be laid off. That should do it

If you transition and update your preferred pronouns you won't get laid off.

HR is there to look after the company. They don't care about employees unless they are in the Exec circle. In Cisco, HR keeps their jobs because of our LRs! Just look how big HR has become. If Cisco didn't have a culture of LR (screwing people to make more profit), HR would be half the size. Fellow employees, just look in our directory under Fran!

A pay cut wont save you either. LOA is the only sure way to delay an imminent LR. Or have a baby and take maternity/paternity leave.

Uh, that would be a resounding NO!

You went to HR, that was exact reason you got LR. HR is there to protect company.
Do you pay HR out of your own pocket? who is feeding these people from HR? the company. Why you think you are too good, just leave.

No, an HR case doesn't protect you during a mass layoff. Since WFRs are not due to performance but instead due to budget cuts, they don't need a reason as to why you are being layed off.

I did the same and still got LR last year.
