Folks, a lot of us are arguing on something else (IP, Execs, etc...)..Let's concentrate on core..Any idea what is it going to be next week - Mon 15th to Friday 19th? Anything should I expect? Should I start dusting off my old laptop and start polishing my resume? I have to renew my apt lease in like 2 months (YES or NO)..Should I move to bigger cities? Please help me.....
The key thing I would like to know is, how is it going to be in like 3-6 months from now. I know Corning has trimmed a lot and got rid of some dead roots and very well performing employees...But what is next...Will there be more trimming...PS I am an average performing employee...so so...Not Top not Bottom...just in the middle...Let's weather this storm together

Get your resume together. Corning does not keep average employees around for long. That is how they do business.
I got the “email” tonight, and I’m a high performing employee according to past reviews and PDR. I would definitely not renew lease - I also know lots of other people who got the “email”
18th too? I thought the conference room bookings were only for tomorrow?
Most likely it would be 17 and 18th.
Any news for tomorrow?
I think you might have better luck with networking on sites like blind or LinkedIn.
Thank you Folks...This helps a lot...Also, it looks like some of my team (my colleagues or might be me) might have been given an expiration dates...I am just guessing based on scenario (Total ChgOuts, and few more factors)...
That being said, can anyone suggest where should I move? My wife has a healthcare job (with moderate to high job security)...My background is modeling...Can anyone suggest what companies/cities should I target for?Do any of the folks have any connection working at the followings?
- Dow Corning
- Chemorous
- Applied materials
- Chemorous
- Apple
- Amazon
- ASML
- Intel
I am actively looking at the job postings from these companies. Do you know which one does have more Corning alumni? My plan is to get a new job for my wife to one of the cities that these companies are in and look for my job..Any suggestions?
You ask about 3 to 6 months from now. This was discussed in other threads, but a widespread assumption is that selling off huge assets like office buildings is a sign of expected long-term operating as a smaller company. And also having more layoffs after more than a year of constant layoffs means the execs don't think we are at that 'smaller company' size yet.
Reality is your resume should ALWAYS be updated - but definitely do it now. There are lots of free templates on social media (look for creators with actual HR/recruiting experience) - there have definitely been changes in what will attract attention.
Also update your LinkedIn profile - there are settings that can have you visible to recruiters without the green 'open to work' thing. LinkedIn is very important now. Also get accounts on the recruiting sites (Indeed at least).
Sadly for many roles, Corning has a 'geography lock' at least in the Valley - if you want/need a new job that means you're moving. Because there are very few comparable jobs in the region.
For division/departments relying on charge out, like MTE and some S&T, how is the funding look like, any signs of project cutting?
The employees will pay for WW bad decisions. The mess called CPT was his ego decision. He thinks he is Steve Jobs but sadly he is not Steve Jobs. He road in on the coat tails of work done decades ago, fiber, IOX, & flat glass, and pats himself on the back for it. He blames employee work ethic for his bad decisions including hiring the wrong executives, that RV who runs CPT is just as clueless. Dr Evil and Mini-me is a good comparison. These 2 think they are "the smartest guys in the room". Not sure is they if they are "Lazy or just Stupid".
I would update the resume now. Not renewing lease. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Do not go Silicon Valley as Google and a bunch other high tech layoffs too. In Midwest some EV lithium cell manufacturing plant may have opportunities
17th (Wednesday) are cuts. Don’t update lease right now
If your not the ceo or one of his henchman I'd dust off your resume
