I think the politics were happening way before 1998. Remember the DocuColor 40? The one with the CMYK & S ports for the DFE? The "S" stood for "Scanner", where you could scan documents back to the DFE...
It was never implemented, because the MakeReady team saw that as a threat to their stuff..

I remember something to the effect that they over spent by a billion to get that igen going including placing untested gear / make customer the guinea pig. X did it to themselves... Nothing left now but ruins and hulks they rebuild and claim as new....

Grow up fuji had a 100 ppm engine during the launch of igen and was forced to throttle down speed as it would easily kick igen but- see politics rather than superior product even in year 1999...
I remember when even the igen3 team had to stop fuji from launching a 100 ppm fujin device because it would stop the identity from flourishing - hate to burst people's bubbles but even 20 years ago it was about politics fuji had a better handle on the engines at about 1998... I can assume they are cleaning house and raking all comers with revora....
