Comp is a joke at MS. HR is a mess and has no clue what they are doing. They don’t help, they only hurt the firm.

Another poster is right, a lot of other firms pay better. Especially outside the industry and there is much more transparency.

Time to start looking if you haven’t already

Got laid off end of Nov and they gave me less than 50& of my bonus as an ED. I'm also an MSWM client, totally pathetic.

MS HR has been using a practice to save money for the firm: if the street norm is 3% - 5% raise in base and 10% - 30% raise in bonus each year. MS would do the same but over 5-year period: they will raise your base by 2% in y1 and keep bonus the same, then keep your base the same but raise your bonus by 5% in year 2, then keep everything the same in Y3. then up 2% for base in Y4, up 5% in y5.

2% raise, same bonus as last year but I was "meets expects" vs "exceeds" - very confused. Someone above says it good "talent-respecting" there's so much underused/untapped talent in me and others makes me sad.

zero bonus, 2% salary raise. those who just talk get more and more bonus. those who actually do work get no bonus.

Based on these numbers given, I think it's very clear they're hoping people leave. 2% is more than an insult; it's a nudge out the door. Good luck to those crossing their fingers hoping for a lay-off/severance.

This figure seriously makes me consider switching to another, more generous (and talent-respecting, rather than just wasting money) company. The new job offer, at the very least, provides a fixed bonus for the first year, unlike here where I toil away (with strict RTO policies) only to receive less bonus each year. Of course, on the other hand, the company can be generous at times, offering candidates an additional bonus of 20 million.

0% increase on salary
And my bonus was reflective of a title below me. Not my usual amount.
