Is there a pattern or is it all just random?

In SWG group in China, my site was announced to be closed about 7 months already, and no RA, no valuable tasks to take, and waiting for the next actions......
When to take the next action? who knows?
@41ne - what criteria did you use to identify those for RA on your team? Performance? Salary? Location? Other?
I was involved in identifying the people on my team who would be affected (basically need to identify x number of people on your team) about 6 weeks to a month out from the general time frame for the RA and was then told of the exact date for notification 7-10 days out.
Add-on question: in general when do managers find out the actual date of the layoff and who is getting cut?
It's coming... don't worry!
The lunar cycle Every one of them
A lot of leadership announcements happening which usually sets layoffs in motion.
Usually around quarterly earnings are going to be announced. Then there are the smaller RAs throughout the year
It happening now. These crooks come up with new terms. I think they call it business driven mobility. I call it bs
It’s already happening.
The rumor is that this year’s actions are going to happen in the Feb/March time frame. Notified end of Feb, and must be out by end of March. This Aline's with several of IBM’s recent actions. Selling off weather, replacing legacy SW with newer purchased products, and continued downsizing of commodity offerings (mostly scale out product lines)
typically April/May time frame
Keep your eye on the book to bill ratio. There is a reason IBM announces that every quarter. That is the measure of how deep a bench IBM can carry in its consulting division and how efficient the consulting division is operating. With 2/3rds of IBM’s manpower now residing in consulting, as goes consulting so goes IBM. Given that, you can measure each division based on its unique strategy.
- Consulting = Book to bill (should be growing) and its utilization. It’s essentially how efficiently are you deploying your commodity services manpower
- Infrastructure = innovation and business cycle It’s essentially how quickly can your customers absorb any new technology (Telum, Power 11, and Flash coupled with SW data as a service enhancements) you have developed.
- SW = SW modernization It’s essentially how quickly can you convince customers to modernize their legacy code stack and/or adopt new SW offerings into the legacy
In 2023 there were RAs in Europe in March, US was first week of April, Canada was last week of April and then there were PIPs all throughout the year up to end of November.
