Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Expect org changes and exit stage left for EC members. Some retirements at the top, some EC folks will be laid off. They didn’t do the EV changes with the rest of the RIF’s in Oct b/c of all the bad press with how the balance sheet was managed in 2023 while interest rates went up.

HR is very conservative and generally avoids volunteers for fear of litigation. People change their minds.

Not sure Schwab will ever do voluntary layoffs, but I was successful at speaking to my manager several months ago before the Oct layoffs and told him I’d be “ok” if they were to lay me off. May sound crazy, but it worked. He knew I was not happy in my role, had applied out a couple times, and that setting me free with a severance whilst allowing the department to hit their $$ target for the cuts was as close to a win win as possible. He also knew I was dependable and responsible because my work showed this, so the “awkwardness” that may have ensued if I didn’t make the layoff list would have been reduced.

Your specific situation may vary of course, like your relationship with your manager (mine was an MD), and the dept has to be ok with not technically replacing your headcount. In my case it required sliding people and things around to make it work.
