WFH is a privilege not a “Right. The corporation can change the rules at any time. If you don’t like it, no one is begging you to stay. Or try suing Schwab…
I don’t see any other choice.
Big difference between hybrid WFH and 100% WFH. anyone who actually thought they never had to come back to an office at least partially was mistaken and now comes off as entitled because this was "taken" from them. some of us who have more maturity (don't have to be a boomer to be mature) can see it as we were fortunate to have up to 100% WFH temporarily, and still have a net gain of 40% WFH.
Elon Musk (not a boomer) said it best: "if you want to pretend to still work here, you can WFH, but the rest of you are coming in to work"
@1wxk+1qoL0hTH I have news for you, I have a recording of Walt saying WFH for the "vast vast majority" is here to stay and "isn't some temporary thing". Don't feel bad for us, feel bad for Walt. He says in the same recording he'll never waste our time with half truths or corporate speak but that's all he does.
We don’t care what former employees have to say. Their opinions on RTO or our culture currently are irrelevant
I just feel bad for those of you who thought 100% WFH would be permanent: no one ever said it would be. Either figure out a way to adjust or find something else. Also, amazing to see the lack of respect or regard for those who have more experience than you, I just feel bad that you are not willing to be open to their input.
started remote in 2022 and embarked on my first soul draining 55-75 minute commute door to door yesterday. was denied a remote exception even though I'm over 40 miles from the office.
all for the culture though, right? so worth it. schwab is family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a young Gen Xer, borderline Millennial, who was a director at Schwab for over 8 years: I recommend you younger employees not be so dismissive of the boomers or older employees; you could learn quite a bit from them. Take it for what it’s worth.
I mean I'm not thrilled to be back in the office but it could have been worse. It wasn't bad before, when we were in the office 5 days a week. I'm somewhat resigned to the notion that in 2 years or less we will probably be back to 5 days a week in the office.
Day 1: elevators smelled like a corpse was rotting in them. Already mentioned, but witnessed multiple people walk right out of the bathroom without washing their hands, one of which blew his nose after coming out of the stall. Stupid coffee pods were empty by 10:30 a.m. Coworker constantly coughing and sniffling. After coughing I could feel the breeze from his breath pass over my face. Site support completely overwhelmed. Some sort of mucus on the screen of the soda stream, I think someone sneezed on it. Nearly nobody was working, so much toxic gossip. Main theme was discussing who got the axe last year and of course distaste nearing hatred towards the EC for RTO. Arrived later than others but did luck out with a very close parking spot.
@pfu+1qoL0hTH do you understand taxes? taxed like a bonus, but you still pay the same tax rate in the end at tax time whether it's taxed at 1% or 99% when it's paid out. Stupidest argument ever.
Sounds like a millennial or Gen Z with the fat severance comments and crying about RTO. You need a good dose of reality.
I just spoke to someone who said he applied for 300 jobs and it took months to find something and yes he was a good employee.
The severance will be taxed like a bonus. The laid off will have to pay $700 or more a month for health insurance a month and no Obamacare isn’t cheaper and it comes with a $15k deductible. Many have families and don’t have a spouse to pay their bills.

It was a good company. That’s changed. There are better ones and we are going further down. (There are some that are worse too)

I have literally not done jack sh-t for two months, and tbh it's glorious.
Agree with the comment that the severance was NOT "fat". It was industry standard and enough for Schwab management to save face and be able to hire/rehire industry talent in the future. Never underestimate the power of "word of mouth" comments from laid off employees.
I thought this was a website regarding layoffs. So, that’s why I’m still here; sometimes there is useful info and sometimes there is entertainment in the form of existing employees complaining about their dirty coworkers.
For the people that got laid off why are you still here? Seriously nothing better to do except come give the people still working here a hard time about RTO?

I am also laid off and can see how this thread could be annoying to those of us without a job. However, it’s entertaining to see what is annoying to those now having to go in: you know, things most of us had to deal with all our lives. I myself and my team all had to go often in during COVID so those who were used to 100% remote I have little pity for, sorry. I can sympathize with the commute complaints, but please do yourselves a favor and figure out a way to deal with the germ concern.

@snn+1qoL0hTH I’m sorry many of my finest coworkers and many more were laid off. We’ve been told positions are not being backfilled now, for anyone resigning or being let go. Period.

Yeah, I was missing the excitement of living dangerously: being around people going from #2 straight to the fridge, microwave, conference rooms. The only safe surface was the faucet, which was avoided like the plague!

Great so far! Took me 35 minutes to drive there and another 10 to wait in line around the roundabout to get a parking spot. Can't wait to spend 45 minutes in traffic to get home! So glad to waste almost 1.5 hours of my day for nothing! Oh and I'll need to get gas on the way back
