So to summarize it with some sarcasm:
- Spirit AeroSystems said on Thursday that they are going to let go of a lot of people who work in Wichita. Joe Buccino, who speaks for Spirit, said it's because they are making fewer planes right now, so they need fewer workers. They promised to be nice about it and let the workers know what's happening soon.
- Some workers found out about this because they got an email from Terry George, a big boss at Spirit. In the email, Terry said that about 400 to 450 workers would lose their jobs because they have too many planes and need to slow down making new ones.
- Spirit is one of the biggest places to work in Wichita. The mayor, Lily Wu, said it makes her sad that so many workers are losing their jobs because Spirit is really important to the city. She said it's a tough time for businesses.
- A big union called IAM, which helps workers in different industries, is also worried about the layoffs. They said they are there to support all the workers and their families who might be affected.
- Terry George said that managers will tell the workers what to do next in the coming weeks. He also said that it was a hard choice to make and thanked everyone for understanding and being strong during this tough time.
looks like 400-450 not sure if contractor or if employees,, funny how they kept it under 500.
I heard today it may start sooner than June.
Layoffs will begin in June, once Boeing gets the new line flow numbers straight, sounds like 2400 heads at spirit and 1000 at Boeing. Just what i read on the bathroom stall wall
