Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

How to spot an especially bad Expat job at Aramco

  1. Involves high complexity and attention to detail. I have never seen a high level manager who valued that kind of work or even understood it. Thus, you are at higher risk when downsizing occurs.
  2. Mentions the words "work under pressure" or "tight deadlines". Everything at Aramco is decided at the last minute and deadlines are crazy. If the job description has language like that, just image what your life will be like.
  3. That job posting was up a year ago. You can find out by going to "internet time machine". Unless the job is a common one like secretary (there are lots of secretaries), the reason that job is still there is likely because turn over is very high.

If even just two of the three warning signs are there, think TWICE before you get on that plane!

Just my experienced opinion.

The ads we have in our dept are boilerplate, aimed at attracting the cheapest, most subservient, expats possible. Hiring then hits the KPI targets, Allah smiles, management get promotions.

The difference between the job description and the actual job when here is a stark contrast. It's Kryptonite for the ambitious professional.

Expect very little (if any) sympathy or support towards those who uprooted to make the move only to be misled and cheated in their career

  • . . . and perhaps your sanity and health.

I don’t think the listed jobs are dead. Most look fairly recent. Some jobs of course are ongoing like liasonman in drilling etc. My understanding is that the openings are very real and to be filled. Good luck to any applicants. I’m retired now but spent many great years with Aramco. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but where is. Overall, I saved a lot and also enjoyed my time there.

The job ads are mostly misleading and/or fraudulent. They would get sued in a civilised country for their gross misrepresentations.

Most jobs that have consultant or specialist in the job ad title won’t actually be at GC15 or 16.. Those ads that speak about leading or

managing won’t actually be doing any of the above.

Bait and switch is a proud technique Aramco uses all the time.

Many of the job ads have been there for years in any case and are dead.
