Basically, I got approval from everyone to leave to join another team except him. This includes his own manager. He was not going to reject it but he was not happy about me wanting to leave.

who cares? think anybody at Oxy cares? stop whining about it and move on.
Too many unknowns to comment. But my observation is that the managers here, especially the mid-level ones, are grossly incompetent in their roles as managers. They just don’t get how to do it. Most are only looking out for themselves. And they’re all struggling themselves to move upwards. It may be just the fact that you wanted out from his group and that he thought that made him look bad. Or maybe the fact that you went to his boss about the move, that being a perception of going over his head. So many unknowns. But obviously he felt you made him look bad or else made his life more difficult. Otherwise he wouldn’t give a S**t about you leaving. But you gotta do what you gotta do. Look out for yourself these days. He may have tried to sabotage your move if you went to him first or tried to confide in him or involve him more. Seen that before many times at Oxy as well. It’s disgusting.
My experience if they wont let you go is you have actually have some usefulness. The days of a manager looking out for you are long gone so I doubt they would be looking out for you and holding up a move to protect you. They are looking out for themsleves and thinking cr-p there goes the workhorse
After 2 years you are free to leave. That is unless you are a Permian inmate
@1mjq+1qdPbrgp - Agree, and I would listen to my current mananger to make sure he does not see something in the new role you don't. I have had managers look out for me, and if they do not want you to move it might atually be that they are looking out for you. Good thing is they think enough of you to want to keep you. I have seen some instances where the old manager jumps for joy when someone wants to move wihin the company. So it does look like you have a good situation, and go have a good talk with your manager and see what their reasoning is. Don't forget there are changes going on in the company with assets that many of us do not even know about.
Sounds like a good news story if you have sponsors for movement and your manager doesn’t want you to go. Trust me, the manager would rather have it this way than have an employee who he doesn’t want and no one else wants and then has to fire the employee. You my friend are in a great situation. Make sure you thank your manager for supporting you in the end.
So what? Would you rather he have been thrilled that you were finally leaving? What was the point of this post?
