Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

RTO is a scam

Upper management knows that the middle and the bottom doesn't pay attention to driving value for the business. "Leaders" keep getting promoted not on their abilities but what fits the image they want to show. The bottom managers don't listen to SMEs few have any idea what they are doing. What is driving this behavior?

I'm fully convinced the ones who say WFH is a scam and that nobody works at home ARE THOSE THAT SCAM THE SYSTEM.

The ones that know WFH can work are the ones who can bring value to the company.

Be happy with the hybrid schedule and do not abuse it. Its far better than what we had before.

No it’s not, OP. The real scam is WFH.

Tell me how working in a cubicle at the office is beneficial (other than hypothetically reducing need for more office square footage)? No privacy, no confidentiality, and the need to wear headphones to reduce noise from others nearby. And don't get me started about "hoteling" (call me old fashion, but I like idea that I can keep paper files confidential when need arises--- need an office for this)

I'm all for the hybrid schedule. It gives me a chance to draw a 2nd paycheck on the days I'm supposedly WFH. Not another oil company so no conflict of interest. I can get my Chevron work done in the 2-3 days I'm in the office. Think this is anything new? I remember 20 years ago my "mentor" when I started with Chevron eventually told me how he did real estate in his "spare time" in the office.

So everyone who worked for decades and decades in the cushy offices instead of offshore or onshore in the field and all the ones who do now are getting scammed? If that's the case then I'd love to be scammed. Sign me up.

Surely these RTO posts and supporters are bots? They can't be that thick to see it won't end well for most of them if they're right. Lol

The overwhelming majority of peer reviewed studies question the true productivity and sustainability of extensive WFH post Covid. Without doubt most prove the benefits to workers but to suggest this translates to business efficiencies or improvements is not supported. The reason why you ask. There is not enough data to support this conclusion just yet. Lots of opinions yes, but your opinion means nothing compared to a Shareholder. Like it or hate it doesn't matter. When big players want you to RTO, you RTO. Pretty simple and possibly unfair to you but not others. What will you do if evidence supports WFH. Fair to say your role will be open to all US citizens and within the USA. Protected and only for US citizens. Still think your the best in the pool of US candidates? Be mindful what you wish for my friend.

What is with the b oot l ickers on here? Why support hurting average workers who finally have more flexibility and more time with their family. It doesn't boost shareholder profitability being in office. There are studies and articles out there from business magazines that show that. If it's jealousy due to having a job that has to be in office I say go back to school to get another job then.

I have a better idea. Let people work from home and don't allow companies to outsource. We need to start valuing American workers over a few cents extra of dividends. The shareholders get enough. I suspect it's field workers who are the uncaring ones. I'd say you move to salaried pay and work overtime for free in solidarity like RTO is supposed to be.

RTO if you value your job. Any work that can be done from Conroe or San Antonio can be done from Buenos Aires or the Philippines at much lower cost.

If you tell yourself RTO is a scam you will eventually believe it?

Really over this RTO scam garbage. RTO or your job will go overseas. Why do you think the business is for you more then a shareholder? Just crazy.

It is a scam. It doesn't increase productivity or any kind of collaboration. Most meetings are on teams anyway now days with such a world wide workforce. Management just wants a sense of control and to take back some work life balance we have gained.

In what way is it a scam? Is it just because you don’t like it?
