The issue is Belk not paying a livable wage not Social Security benefits which have nothing to do with it (the average payment for 2023 was $1786.23, not $800.00).
This is the main reason why many seniors these days are homeless. With a fixed income of $800 in social security check per month, they can't afford rent and food these days. Rent prices increased drastically and many landlords evicted people. Many people are in debt cause they didn't save for the future and spend on materialistic items. This is America after all.
