Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

I still enjoy my job

I can't be the only one. I see so many people wanting to leave and others encouraging others to leave because this is a horrible place to work, but that's not true for me. I like my job, I'm well compensated, I like my coworkers, and I don't want to leave. That's what's making these layoffs so scary to me. I have so much to lose. I envy those who don't care.

I actually enjoyed my time at Nielsen and wish it lasted longer. I knew it would only be a matter of time before I was laid off since I’ve heard they do it often.

It’s nice that you get paid, what you consider, well in the department you’re in. I know that where I live, and in our departments, we’re getting paid below the living wage. I’ll miss some of my colleagues, yes, but the company doesn’t care. They change the goals we should meet at the end of the year if “too many” reached the goal. And then restrict how we are assessed to minimize the increases, which seem to come later and later in the year, if they come at all. And I’m now doing the work for some of the people that left, hmm. Hey, but their bonuses and raises don’t stop. If you Google it, it’s public info. They make so much more in bonuses than in pay, it’s ridiculous. I dare you to Google it. Go on. Come back in a bit and tell me you’re ok.

So it’s not outsourcing because Nielsen is hiring individual employees, as opposed to contracting with a job center? So are we to believe that Nielsen is doing profitable business in these countries to warrant such a presence? No, this is outsourcing. Someone at Nielsen just thinks they can do it cheaper than the existing outsourcing centers. Call these centers what you want. It just looks like you’re trying to polish a tu-d. Someone mentioned capitalism in the comments. This is a stab at economic globalization. The problem is there will be no financial growth for Nielsen within these countries. All monies being sent abroad to support operations removes money from the US economy. So a handful of people in the US will maintain jobs. The owners will continue to su-k every penny out of the business until it breaks, as opposed to investing in the growth of the company. But until that time, it’s just comforting to know that millions of US dollars will be removed from our economy to support centers in other countries, producing no local business. But it’s not outsourcing.

My job has changed dramatically in the past year, and many of my favorite co-workers have been laid off. I used to enjoy my job (which is why I stayed with a company known for low pay), but now I am ready for a severance and a little time off.

I don't mind the work and I've been at it for a long time. I have absolutely seen the quality decrease by a lot due to directives from above though, and that's frustrating for someone who wants to do their job right. I'm not particularly well compensated and while I used to like the people I work with, through all the other rounds of layoffs, it's mostly slimy people playing the political game left in management. I should have left a long time ago, and that's on me, but I don't think this situation su-ks more for people who like this job.

Please update us after you lose your job. Pay raises will continue to lag behind inflation, morale will go down, and future layoffs will likely be the kind where you train your foreign replacement. Why go through that? Why take the chance?

There are good companies out there that you can be happy at.

Plug your current pay into an inflation calculator. You were not even keeping up before the spike. Go get a good job that pays better.

Don’t put yourself in a position to have to train your replacement. It is not healthy for you.

I think a lot of people agree, but that is why this su-ks so much. My feelings are similar that I love my job and the team that I'm with and my managers. I've dedicated so much to Nielsen because I've been happy to support this company, and in return the leaders have decided that loyalty does not matter. So much so that they have gone beyond just outsourcing by showing their true disregard with the minimized severance.

It's not that everyone hates Nielsen. It's that people recognize that the leaders have stopped investing/caring about us.

16 years and still can't spell disaster? it looks like Nielsen only retains the bad employees. No wonder it's been a desaster oops disaster.

I completely agree with the original poster. I have been here for years and have had great managers, interesting work, reasonable work/life balance, lots of autonomy. There are no jerks at Nielsen and I have seen jerks elsewhere. It's very disappointing that many of us will be replaced by less expensive offshore workers but this is how capitalism works. We can't change that. I plan to land on my feet as always and not participate in the negativity.

I was laid off last year. Yes, I loved my work at Nielsen and also my teammates and immediate supervisor. There are a lot of jobs out there but it is a competitive job market. The other companies pay a lot more and you'll enjoy your work and teammates in another company too. It's hard to land a job, but the benefits are so worth it. You're worth a lot more than what Nielsen thinks of you, which is a warm body to do the work, that can be replaced by any other warm body who accepts less money.

Im with u, i work 16 years here, its fine.

But its all very exhausting
2010 it was Outsourcing to india - a Desaster
2013 it was Outsourcing to Turkey - same Desaster
Since then we had multiple layoffs
Again last year january and now again india.
it's exhausting
