Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

25 years of service or more

I seen a post about someone resigning with 25 years of service for peace of mind . I COMPLETELY understand that and agree 100% with it …… BUT you need to FULLY understand what happens to your RR when you do that….

If you have 25 years in and you leave on your own and go work another job that produces a W2, you will LOSE whats called your CURRENT CONNECTION…. basically your surviving spousal benefits …. So if you die before your spouse, they will lose your Tier 2 benefits

BUT

If you get furloughed with over 25 years and the company doesn’t offer a transfer (and we know they won’t) THEN You could get another W2 producing job with NO AFFECT on your current connection

Now some won’t care at all about this and i dont blame you but just make sure you aware of this….

Use your sickness leave up! Then after 4 months of being on that take a disability leave for stress induced trauma. Just did it and I’m doing very well with that. The Dr prescribed me a medication on the UP no fly list and the retirement was automatic after that. Get your money Back!!!

Those who quit before full retirement age are HELPING current and future railroaders. The more who quit (and quit paying into railroad retirement) the more train / track defects found by regulators, the more slow, cr-ppy over priced service, and the more derailments will force the public and govt’s to see how badly UP has been run into the ground. Its obvious Jimmie just knows one thing, cut, cut, cut, etc. This guy couldnt grow mold in a damp dark basement, with a wet napkin, a piece of bread and a ziplock bag.

It's still better than dealing with the PSR BS. Everyone has a breaking point and lecturing people about making the right decisions in regards of their own retirements is wrong.

Not if you join another railroad. I know that not what you were talking about. In this situation.
