For all the complaints I have about this company, the claims in the OP article isn’t it. It reads more like an angry former employee making mostly baseless claims. Capital placement style programs are common practice in many industries, and not a kickback. I’m sure the former employee wasn’t upset about it until she got let go, probably for inadequately preparing the end users for the conversion.
As for the stapler issues, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a struggle with adoption and possibly a product quality issue. Seems to be far too common at Medtronic across many divisions. However, that wasn’t the primary focus of the article, and it probably should have been…

Bill George?? Seriously, Bill George? He was a joke CEO during the dotcom bubble years when we would have been successful with any CEO making decisions using a magic-8 ball. He may not be as bad as Martha, but he's up there. He bad-mouthed big pharma companies attempting to raise shareholder value by chasing lower tax havens and then when Medtronic did it, he was all in favor of it.
I remember hearing an interview with him on the radio and when he suggested employees could cut their tax bills (due to the inversion tax burden on employee shareholders) by suggesting something like, oh, you know, just donate $50K to your favorite charity to offset it. He showed he was completely out of touch with regular working-class people.

Bill George gave a 5 point recommendation for what needs to happen to turnaround Boeing. Yeah stay away from the 737 Max! Airbus is loving it.. he could do a lot for Medtronic at the helm in 36 months.
