My manager and his manager saved me from getting a 4 on my review. In my department you have to make specific disclosures over the phone to clients and unfortunately I had problems remembering that which led me to get a warning from HR. However, ny performance for the year was far beyond what was expected of me and because of that he worked with his boss to get me a 3 since I had 2’s and 1’s in other categories. He was a great boss but unfortunately him, his boss, and his bosses boss were all let go under the wealth management reorganization.

My first managers were ok. They were helpful though they were not people persons. I could just do my work and was trusted (no micromanaging). My 3rd and 4th managers (current one) tie for being horrible, disorganized, dysfunctional, goofball, crazy, unskilled and inexperienced. Basically, they'd throw you under the bus and run over you a bunch of times laughing like the joker. Lol. It was "who you know" for both of them. No one in their right mind would make them mangers under normal circumstances.

The only decent manager in my area was recently laid off. The worst ones remain.

Read the thread about doing the bare minimum work and do exactly that. Don't go the extra mile, Don't rush and Don't multitask.

I had two inspirational leaders. But now they are layering me under a peer I have 0 respect for. I'm one foot out the door. I'll miss my former manager but I can't stay in this toxic environment.

Not in Citi, but the best manager I had was an "old school" pre-retirement age gentleman who stood up when a woman entered his office or approached his desk. Always led by example, required high standards but always starting with himself, provided great training, guidance , support. Such managers had already proved their worth and have piles and piles of achievements to prove that. Unfortunately, such people are often used and abused by younger higher-ups, so they they leave when they'd had enough.

The worst managers I had are those from a different culture where a high EQ apparently looked upon as a source of weakness. They are smart, ambitious, determined. Unfortunately, being H1 or L1 holders, they sometimes are treated as slaves themselves so this toxicity gets passed down. they squeeze their subordinates trying to promote themselves and will use all the means necessary to survive.
The last such manager damaged my self confidence and self esteem in a way no amount of therapy is going to fix, Lol

Over tha last 20 years every third manager was pretty good and I have a great manager now. Unfortunately our group is being reshuffled, so I don't know what's in the cards for me.

I was hired in 2022 and my manager was awesome. He stood up for me every time. I felt safe. But last year was a nightmare with a manager who felt insecure and created a toxic environment. I would say my first manager is an example of inspirational leadership.

Have been lucky enough to have four over the years. Unfortunately, 2 are dead and the other 2 were laid off.

I had two inspirational managers. They both found better jobs and left citi. Current line manager is hard to work with. Maybe the current culture is toxic and not possible for inspirational leaders to shine?
