Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Promotions? Should we expect?

Should we expect any promotions this year? I am working as a level +1 than my role since almost an year and i feel i should be promoted and paid fairly for that. Whenever i ask my manager, they just simply use the 'tough' year and 'layoffs' cards and say there has been a halt in promotions. I dont see any in my org as well, but any inside info on promotions? Especially within STS.

With promos being removed from the review cycle, and no clear process outside of that process except for managers to "ask" and be approved if there is a business need and budget. In other words you u are in full control over your career path by taking other internal or external roles.

There is little to no in line promo path at Schwab. This year there is also no internal roles to apply to for a promo given the hiring freeze... You are f'd

I would not count on it. Do the work you are paid to do, stop taking on extra, you won’t be rewarded for working hard. Welcome to Schwab.

Are they really thinking to outsource all of STS? Right now, only the tech leads are FTEs and the rest of the team is mostly offshore contractor and a minor share of onshore contractors (atleast in my world). Are they really that du*b to outsource the remaining good piece as well?

Apart from STS, the other team's tools also need to be shipped offshore.
and replace all contractors, new contractors, and FTEs with new FTEs.

lol no. Barring very very few absolute rockstars (always get exceeds or mostly far exceeds, manager really likes you and you carry the team), no one is getting promoted.

I've been waiting for a promotion for 3/4 of a year. I made a deal with myself if I didn't getting promoted by now then I would leave. Being stuck at the associate level and only getting $3k raises each year isn't something I plan on staying around for.

STS is preparing to outsource. It sounds like it will be Says and development, but if the EC grew a pair they’d dump Tiny and leverage Andrew too.

Unless you have convinced them that you cannot be replaced, and, seriously, no internal employee can do that, a bump isn’t in the cards for most.
