Been hearing some teammates have been put on PIPs, we know they never work; so when they get canned do they at least get severance pay from Schwab?

there’s legit reasons to put someone on a coaching memo or written warning
Absolutely. And in over a decade I’ve seen one instance where that occurred. Over two dozen other instances were absolute nonsense. One was literally where an IC finished project A when told by their manager to not work on B until A was finished; they were written up for not finishing B first.
And the pattern is to use PIPs on older workers, the outspoken, those with medical issues and others who would be difficult to get rid of for legitimate reasons.
This is 1000% accurate
Lying management will target employees for illegal reasons to avoid paying severances

The Wall St Journal article barely scratched the surface
Schwab is an evil disgusting company
I mean, there’s legit reasons to put someone on a coaching memo or written warning; there are bad employees out there that need to have some type of corrective action and yes eventually terminated. Nothing wrong with that when done correctly, and I think the rest of the team appreciates a PL with backbone getting rid of a underperforming employee.
All team members of tools team (I know new Struct / org and I am in one of it) should be in pip . canned at once including contractor.
Coaching memos, written warnings and performance plans have been part of the shitfu-kery for years.
If you are fired for cause you do not get a package.
Given the nonsensical issues raised, lack of genuine justification and presence in hostile states all employees should always document everything. Do not think that HR will support you. They’ll claim that the manager did nothing wrong and policy prevents their removing errors from your record. Audio record, write notes in real-time, consult with an attorney and set yourself up for a settlement. Schwab does settle and acts conservatively in doing so. But you have to document and you can’t have legitimate issues against you.
