Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

When CNBC says your CEO is wrong...

The top 3 things bosses should get rid of in 2024, says CEO—remote work isn’t one of them.

They also focus on attire and tracking software.

I want to add a fourth - health care. Why do we tolerate literal blackmail for health care in a system that doesn't allow for portability or personal choice? I don't buy auto insurance from my company. And anticipating the next layoff I started looking at personal insurance. Yikes! Cheaper but complicated. Someone smarter than me has to explain why half the country wants for-profit insurance used to hold for-profit employees hostage. Until then I will keep debating being an in-the-office drone or finally admitting that I can't take it anymore, health be damned.

Medicare for all would be excellent in theory and it’s not the wait times. Healthcare would lose a lot of frills. Like private rooms for being admitted to hospitals would become more scarce. I think at least some people are ridiculous enough that they don’t want to give up these things, not realizing that they’re paying for YEARS for care they may never ever need. It could be solved with a private-public component where we had Medicare for everyone and supplemented by employers who pay 100%. But Schwab and other large companies will lobby against that.
