Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

VOE farce, the shame of it all.

When the VOE hits, no one will dare say a thing about the way the layoff is handled out of fear….as usual. So when the results are in, the feedback will be “I guess we didn’t do so bad after all, the results are much better than we expected” .

So people come here on thelayoff, vent, air their complaints, get things off their chest. You know all the things they can’t say on the VOE.

Later come the sycophants and HR to troll this site and gas light any comments that does not fall under the Citi is awesome category.

A few thoughts:

  • You do not have to decide between giving a glowing VOE rating vs. giving a horrible one. If you are that afraid of retaliation, just give a mildly negative rating. The odds that they are going to go through the trouble to research who you are are near zero. Is it possible they could find out who you are? Of course, but it would be very difficult for them to do so and not worth the risk.
  • It boggles the mind why so MDs mention the VOE and continue to pretend like they value it, and yet every year senior MDs like Zdenek barely call attention to the fact that 40% (I think it is?) of employees said they actually expect something good to come from it. Newsflash: If only 40% of employees think there is value in the VOE, coupled with the fact that half of them are lying because they are afraid to tell the truth, why do you keep doing this foolish exercise each year?
  • That said, my message to everyone is: clearly the Board values this exercise, and if you continue to lie and say that you love the company and hope to work at Citi until the day you die -- and perhaps even after you die -- there is no chance any good will come from it.

Employees should write in the VOE 2024 that Citi must go to this website www.thelayoff.com instead of further wasting Shareholder money by paying for the vendor-paid VOE every year.

It is anonymous. I was very critical in my reviews last year and the year before and that did not reflect on my performance assessment. I even shared opinions directly with my boss. Still got 1s and 2s at YEReview.

I joined late 2022, so I missed the opportunity to fill out the VOE, but my broader team spent a lot of time digging into the results to offer some ways to make things better for everyone. I appreciated that, even though I was still new to notice much, but as a result, I was looking forward to fill out the VOE this year.

Well, it's been several months and the only mention of it was on this town hall and only the obvious points were brought up. Of course going back into the office is not popular, but it's not like even your MD can have too much of an influence there.

I was very specific in mine, mentioning the problems working with a specific team that is part of our process. I called out how wishy-washy their directions were and their general lack of guidance elsewhere. I even offered to put some ideas on paper so we can rationalize decisions and not have to bring everything to the top. All I got were responses like "it depends". It's a shame because their lack of guidance affects other teams we work with downstream and no one feels they have any credibility on the matter. It's a very flawed process (especially since our stuff is all time-sensitive) and it's annoying that no one has really opened up that same deep dive we did last year.

Yes I agree. It’s not anonymous. I could clearly see how I was penalized for expressing my opinion. My two cents, if you want a good life, just give a good review.

I think MD’s want you to know its not anonymous so that you are encouraged to give only good ratings. You know a bully tactic.

Unfortunately the VOE is not anonymous. Folks always seem to figure it out

Not everyone though, quite a few people opine . Some groups VOE results are not good. I know for fact -few of my colleagues reached out to Ethics team and there was an HR investigation happened, but sad part is that MD is still working at Citi, So HR doesn’t fire such type of leads or scared to action?

You’re right. I lie on my VOE every year to avoid any type of retaliation. I have a terrible borderline verbally abusive boss but I give her the highest possible rating to avoid any type of confrontation.
