Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Insomnia

Anyone else can't sleep because they're worried of being laid off every day? Ex-GE execs don't seem to care at all about the impact to mental health they are having as a result of their relentless pursuit of profits.

Do the right thing and replace this CEO with someone better because he failed.

Medtronic has been twisting in the wind for a long time. The Covidien acquisition and tax inversion by moving headquarters to Dublin in 2015 was a huge blow to employee morale and income taxes! What a mess that was and is to this day.

So it sounds like MDT is doing the “silent” layoffs if another commenter is aware of two engineers being laid off. What is the number of layoffs that requires MDT to go public about layoffs?

I remember where I was and what I was doing when I learned Earl Bakken passed away. I was privileged to be personally handed the medallion by him when I was hired and hearing some perosnal stories he didn't share in public. I knew at that moment this would be a different company with his passing.

Yup, just saw two more engineers get let go, with 20-30 years of experience and multiple accomplishments. Thanks Geoff and Karen for your "leadership"!

Well, as long as dividends continue outpacing R&D spend, one shouldn’t count on growth or pipeline. The only hope of delivering something is cost down. With old product lines and price erosion, that is not a promising option. Good luck to all…

This company is what a slow moving toilet flush is like to live through. The best people move mountains to get work done in this beauracracy and get slapped in the face in the good times and worse in the bad. It is amazing what the most productive people will endure before pulling the rip cord.

I remember when Medtronic used to not layoff engineers no matter what. It's different these days. Everyone's expendable.

Sad to see this as they celebrate the founders 100 year birthday. Earl would be so disappointed to see what they have done to this company

Don’t worry about what’s out of your control.

But if you still do, Prep your resume. Put yourself out there and see what markets is. Better prepared than not.

Yup, exec leadership doesn't care about patients or the mission anymore, let alone the employees. Only profit and shareholders. Just forget about revenue and innovation, which are the lifeblood of an organization that result from doing business the right way. Throw those out the window. Now we're irrelevant and have lost market share. Ironic when you claim to be capturing it for years, lol.

You need to stop worrying. You and your coworkers will be RIF. As soon as you accept that fact and brush off your resume, you will sleep better.

Medtronic doesn't care about us. All they care about is the shareholders.

So true, cogs in a wheel in Geoff's mind

I sleep like a baby, 8hrs a night. No sense worrying about when your number is up. Were all just a number in MDT's corporate world.

I can't believe people stick around the way they do. The Kool aid is strong around here. The fat is trimmed and the "flat" expectations are beyond old. It does cost more to do business tomorrow than today, better have a strong product pipeline to support it.
