Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

For people in h1b

Do you know how long our grace period is before we have to find a job(i know its 60) but is it the last working day or the last day of severance stops?

Does anyone have any ideas about Nielsen getting visa workers off the table?

"Can a H1B get a job at Walmart while they find a real job? Would that work to stay in the country?"

Most of Nielsen jobs are going to India, if you go back you may both land at exactly the same time and you'd start with Nielsen anew.

No, Nielsen won’t care. The days, are the days.

I’ve seen this exact scenario play out in tech repeatedly over the many years I’ve bern in it. You all need to seek out legal advice ASAP. And mention the WARN act.

Are there extensions past 60 days? Looks to be too short if a visa holder has been in the US for years working for Nielsen and has a house and kids. Shouldn't Nielsen be moral and give H1B's months notices for layoffs?

Can they work for FCM? Nielsen executives are going there when laid off.

Can a H1B start their own data science consulting company and stay in the US?

They have to find the job same role as the current one. You cant take any job.

To @1vqj+1qLg4OtK, scary thought indeed. Fellow H1B. Work my a— off in healthcare IT, xtended hours, weeknds, proud of work, and fellow coworkers (americans or otherwise). Serious work, not some PM or TPM or BA trying to get us all to watch a series of videos/reels/streaming shows or click some buttons to drive up engagement or get addicted to SM apps and their addictive algorithms or buy some useless products or trinkets. But this “layoff, sell everything in a fire sale and leave in 60 days with family/kids in tow” thoughts always make me stop in my tracks and ponder.

To the OP,
60 days from last day of working. DO NOT overstay. I know of somebody who thought he could get a job offer on the last day (60th), which didn’t happen. Ended up overstaying by a few days only to be stamped with overstayed remarks on passport during some secondary screening at the airport before taking the flight back to home country. Don’t do that. Plan accordingly. Hope you aren’t impacted. Good luck to you.

i had a friend with similar situation, you have 60 days from the last day of your working day not on the severance last day. Effectively you have 45 days for you to find a job. It takes at least two weeks for h1b transfer. You have option for tourist visa but its complicated, try to get a opinion from immigration lawyer. If i am let go i have 45 days for me and family and I have two kids, just two years bought a home. If i didn't get a job I have to leave everything here I built for the last 12+ years in just 45 days.

H1bs are becoming too expensive to hire. Karthik wants em inside India.

Damn— No answers here, but heartbreaking question, IMHO, depending on your country of origin…..get hired in US, only to find out you might have had more job security taking Nielsen job in your own country or EU? Good luck, my friend. I’m a US citizen, but sadly, we're ALL sc--wed!!!
