I got laid off from the tech side and have been struggling to find another role. Even the ones I interviewed for are lower paid than what I was making at Schwab. Anyone else facing this?

I started applying right away in November and getting a few interviews… got tons of rejection emails, ghosted, and waiting on one promising opportunity but it’s been weeks. I quit applying after mid Jan because I feel like it’s saturated now.
Same experience here in Tech. December opportunities disappeared and January has been "crickets". I have been talking with several recruiters and the consensus is that hiring is slow in tech with only a few backfill positions. One Senior Recruiter flatly said "I've got nothing" in the Data Systems space. Another recruiter said he's sending all his cold calling candidates to voicemail... admitted it's a role reversal from a year ago when candidates were harder to find. A company with a remote position (out of state) pulled the position and made it onsite. My plan is to use the time to reskill in several cloud technologies and focus on the long haul. Good luck!

I quit applying after mid Jan because I feel like it’s saturated now. Im waiting until March to get back into applying. It’s kind of scary but things tend to work out so I’m staying positive. It’s been a nice break to work on my hobbies, relax and heal.
the promise of AI will fade. It is amazing at some things, but I think it will not drown out your talent.. I have lived through some lesser hype markets. Low code, no code, CMS...
Programmer? It is Software Engineer.
Quit whining about RTO - the jobs are hybrid now - like the previous poster said grow UP!
But keep in mind our borders are also open so I am sure the nation/companies are bringing in foreign works on H1B Visa who will work for a lot less IN OFFICE.
Watch what you wish for.....
Yes and if you read recruiters posts on LinkedIn they say the market is saturated. The salaries are mostly lower. Bidenomics is a crock! They should’ve laid off only those who voted for it! The rest of us knew this would happen when he got into office. Some say it’s going to get a lot worse too.
That’s why I love all those moaning and groaning about RTO on here. Try being unemployed right now and btw nearly every company is hybrid now. Grow up!
I wouldn’t have complained about going back but hey they didn’t want me!
It depends, but lots of programmers and IT staff roles are seeing freezes or reductions. The hype over AI has them thinking they’ll be able to use a $300 a month subscription to ChatGPT and rewrite decades of COBOL.
Real hiring didn’t start until three weeks ago with the holidays. It’s early in the search.
The market is really insane. :(
The market for high paying jobs has turned against the employee in favor of the employer. The market is full of unemployed IT people. It is 2000/2009 level territory now.
