Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Foot traffic down something like 68%

There is hardly any foot traffic in our store. Only 49 people entered the store yesterday and foot traffic is down 68%. Hours cut to under 700.

I noticed it was down, but if you ask management the numbers are ALWAYS🙄🙄 UP!. If I've been there for years and there's definitely a noticeable difference in foot traffic even during Christmas.

At this time of year every retailer sells Christmas leftovers and winter clearance. People shopped a lot for holidays, now nobody wants nothing. It will pick up close to Easter. There will be lots of pink, yellow and green, also about that time summer merchandise will start arriving. This emptiness is pretty much normal and expected. Was holiday profit strong enough to carry business through slower time? I don’t know.

I haven’t worked for Belk for about 3 years-ish but went into one for the first time in about as long this past weekend. They had the checkout near the front, like a grocery store, not a department store (the word department sort of implies that each department is separate?). It was also pretty much deserted. I will say that the store was super clean, so I think maybe the outlets are doing their job at keeping the stores cleaner, but there was barely any merchandise and not a soul in there, at 2pm, on a Saturday.
I was exchanging some pajamas from Christmas, and there was a total of 3 pairs of pajamas in the store. Luckily, one was my size and very nice. It was on a clearance rack, but not on clearance. So rather than be a Karen and fight it, I assumed their skeleton staff hadn’t removed the signs 😂

It was a joke

I don't know about foot traffic, but I work at one of the larger stores and it seems like a catastrophe.
