Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Anyone have any details?

https://deadline.com/2024/01/paramount-global-layoffs-february-1235798785/

For the past several days, there has been chatter that Paramount layoffs of about 800 are imminent. It followed a WSJ report in December that the company was mulling the potential elimination of more than 1,000 jobs in early 2024 to rein in costs. According to sources, the extent of the cuts will not be quite as big but the layoffs will be in the hundreds, affecting virtually every division. I hear senior executives have been given reduction targets to hit.

Haven't heard anyone with an email out of LA yet ? Waiting game is terrible. My manager has been extremely tight lipped. This was already our remote day.

Typically goes down like this: you'll get a meeting invite from your manager about an hour or two beforehand. Subject line will be deliberately vague like, "Touch base." When I got this, I pretty much knew what it meant. I was a good, not top performer, but really a square peg in a round hole. And in my dept you were expected to toe the line.

HR is looped in to check off boxes, basically ensure the company cover its a** should there be any whiff of unlawful termination. Despite what they say (which is scripted), their priority is to protect the company. They really don't care about your situation and just want the process to go as planned. You're just an objective to them.

Good luck to those affected. Frankly, getting let go back in 2020 was in many respects a positive change for my life and career.

Affected people who are remote had a meeting invite appear this morning with their supervisor or another management team member. The call has said person and in some cases their HR rep.

Think Noggin is safe? Unclear leadership and recent goals seem like a hail mary to make noggin worth something. Also potential for it to lose interactive and go linear (short/long form) only

MTV Entertainment CMO told everyone to work from home next week (2/12-2/16), doesn't seem like a coincidence.

They are not cowards Its business , welcome to Paramount , Viacom , ViacomCBS.
I used to work there and when all this chatter starts , the morale of the company goes down the tubes . I would say goodbye to linear . Good luck .
Its a JOB and not social security .

"Also right before bonuses are due...."

If you made it to Jan 1 and are in a bonus pool for 2023 you will still get your bonus.

LOL top performers were not the target. Legal reviews were done for all

Um based on al reduction from every biz dept - for those that are a career threat to others or so management can take more control over staff by getting rid of top performer in order to keep everybody else in check. Worthless employees never get laid off - they are insurance for the others when firing comes down to brass tacks

Assume underperformers get the boot ? When did that ever happen - especially with union staff? Um the ones that are efficient and raise the bar get the boot, always a threat to lazy union riff raff. Backroom deals by ibew

It's not based on location. It's based on a % of reduction from every business. Assume under performers are the first to go
