Thread regarding Wayfair Inc. layoffs

It's not over

The l3s population was decimated with a few remaining. There will continue to be mini layoffs with the l2 population reporting directly to site leads. The plan is to get rid of most of all l3 by the end of the year.

I don't think cuts are done, but I do believe that Wayfair will stick around for awhile. But they sure as he-l are going to ensure that their ROI for $20+ an hour is high!

A story dropped on multiple sites on Dec 29, 2023 that there may be a future merger between Wayfair and Temu. Temu wants to take on Amazon, and that has also always been a goal of Wayfair. Temu needs the freight structure and seious entry into the US that our logistics provides. Wayfairs value is seriously in its freight network. Temu has the money to keep Wayfair alive.

March 19 refers to the actual termination date for employees impacted by the RIF yesterday. Impacted employees are technically still Wayfair employees - just on administrative leave up through March 19.

I have zero doubts that Wayfair is done trimming the fat. There were previous small layoffs happening clear back in October that will continue. Those of you who want to doubt the validity of the information on this site, need to go back in the threads and see for yourself, it has been right more than wrong. Every major layoff was reported at least 1-2 months in advance of them happening. There are leaks at the top levels, those who are privy to this information well in advance and they have posted to this site. It is just a matter of time before they hit the largest group of employees. Frontline. Chat and text functions have been tinkering with AI to help format reply’s to customers and let’s face it. Customer service is paid a lot in comparison to what they would have to pay to outsource in other countries. They have put in a routing system in those functions to dump a majority of the contacts on the higher performing agents and let the drips go down to other agents who wait all day for work. This does 2 things, it gathers the higher performing agents templates to use in the future and it overwhelms and causes burn out with them, in the hope that they quit due to the absolute misery their job has become. This in turn will save money on severance pay once they terminate their positions and signs point to this happening. This company was a great employer at one time. That no longer exists. We don’t know when or how it will happen, but everyone who is still here, should plan accordingly and prepare your resumes now and have a plan for when the ball drops. Also for the comment about the bad publicity. I assure you they do not care! This is now sink or swim and they are trying to survive as long as possible. I have no doubt at some point in the near future Wayfair go out of business.

Why would they wait till 2/2 to do another round of L3 layoffs (plus others). One RIF is bad publicity why double that? Surely if they planned to get rid of them they'd do it with this RIF. Sounds like more Chinese Whispers which unfortunately this site is full of and dilutes the actual facts.

Impacted L2 in frontline here. The cuts definitely are going to continue to gash service. Both L3s in my site were impacted, as well as at least one other L2. I helped grow the Flex program, and can definitely say that increased growth oversees for chat assistance is going to decimate the digital/flex side of frontline service. Efficiency is the name of the game, it’s why chats were pushed to 3 at a time again. In leadership meetings, the response was always “Associates trained overseas start at 3 chats, so they don’t know any different” when we would discuss the burnout flex and chat agents were facing with the higher workload.

The L3 population was trimmed in August ‘22, January ‘23, and then rebuilt only to be severely cut again. There is no longer such thing as long term growth within the company. The L3 role elimination is only small evidence of that. Over the past 6 months, numerous specialized postings appeared for CARE, LPS, RPOPs, etc. Interviews were done, classes were filled, and training schedules were sent out only to be cancelled last second. They will say this is due to the need for L1s on a service level, but in reality the business can no longer support growth in the specialized field.

All of my sites L1 population was supposed to be trained as Flex agents over the summer last year, but abruptly stopped after 2 classes to accommodate the seasonal chat associates and the overseas growth. I can promise that there are so many more signs of outsourcing. Anyone remaining, be proactive, start looking for other opportunities. Don’t let yourself be impacted when this happens again.

L3s have always been under utilized and have always pushed their workload onto the L2... and then blamed the L2s when the L3 looked bad.

This verifies some of the intel I’m hearing about another RIF on 2/2. This would shed the remaining L3 and any L6 that needed to go as they were here to execute the Layoffs.

Wayfair is in serious financial trouble. They owe over 1.5B in debt that needs to be refinanced and they are burning cash way too fast.

It’s keep the lights on time right now folks.

I spoke to my l3 today. She is looking for a new job. She doesn't expect to be at wayfair another 6 months because her sure director did not have a clear definition of her role moving forward. She said, if they don't know why they need me now, why will they change in the next few months. There is no security at the l3 level and you'd be crazy to stick around.

I can't confirm plans to eliminate L3s but my L2 is now reporting to L4.

All L3s? What about escalations?

This is the Wayfair model of 2015. I remember when they didn't have L3s. It was a very lean and efficient operation.

I start reporting to an l4 next week and I'm an l2. A bunch of will be. This is not the Wayfair I started as an l1 with.
