Thread regarding Wayfair Inc. layoffs

The community was right and management is alredy starting their propaganda

From people who haven't been affected I hear that managers are already jumping on calls with their team saying that they didn't know anything and that they only found out when emails were sent earlier today. In the same time they have kept repeating the same propaganda as the last couple of quarters, i.e. our work as an organization over the last year didn't bring us where we wanted to be, the excess needs to be removed but there are signals that we are back to winning and of course that if you have feedback to share to reach out.

2 points on the above:

1- It's not OUR work as an organization that is not bringing us where we wanted to be as we hardly have the chance to question the scope of our teams. Everything we do is being decided by leadership so when they say "our work" as employees they should actually say "their work" as leaders is not bringing us where they wanted to be;

2- To leaders who might be reading this and are honestly seeking feedback. I'm sure if you browse around the platform there's more than enough feedback for you to think about. Sadly enough this never comes up during All Hands Meetings but simply because of fear of retaliation which is a real thing in this company.

You nailed it. The leadership is entirely to blame. When your business is failing its not the little guy, it's the lazy leaders and they keep them. Lots of incompetent friends of the top.

The whole 'my manager honestly didn't know, they had to check with me if I still had a job' thing is starting to stink.
My manager did that last RIF and did a watered down version of that today
Its starting to feel like that was just PR used to deflect blame
We all know that Wayfair loves to provide approved phrasing
I was lucky, I kept my job. But everything else about this just stinks.

Definitely a few wolfs in sheep's clothing on this thread, lashing out at the base level employees and fishing for info for the cable guy. Be vague and do not click links people. Take care!

L5 who posted last night that the RIF was already happening across the pond and that my own boss was advised that their position was being eliminated. I loved my boss and had real trust in them.

Despite knowing they were eliminated, first thing this morning they texted and asked if I was impacted. Clearly they did not know who on their team might be shown the door.

Since then, I've been on the phone with them and they legitimately had no clue as to who in their org would be impacted> They only knew of their own position going away.

Don't assume L5+ are in the know about anything. We watch this board too because we hear the gossip and inuendo. We rarely have the facts in advance.

We're forced to speculate as much as L1's

I think the attack on lower mgmt is a bit pathetic (I'm not a manager btw) they clearly didn't know. My L2 and L3 were asking people today where they safe and looked genuinely happy themselves that they were too. Its clear it was some L5's and L6 above that knew. Some lower managers are lovely here and to throw them all into the same bracket is wrong. Those calling the RIF a joke should maybe look at Amazon and the likes, they have them too. Its not just WF so people should maybe remove the emotion and look at the bigger picture! I'm lucky this time but maybe not the next time but if that's it then so be it! I'm not gonna cry about it because I think the CEO should have given me 6 months notice I'm going to be let go!

To the last poster you're a bit naive to say the least, as it's pretty clear at this point that Wafairs top brass don't have a clue about running a billion dollar company either. Your post is tone deaf and as stale as the last rif. Peace!

So what would happen if everyone knew ahead of time? Productivity would dwindle, thus costing the company a ton of money. Stop pretending to understand what it is like to run a billion dollar business and what it takes to keep the ship from sinking. If it was your home, you would evict people as needed to preserve what you have built. No job is ever guaranteed, everyone should understand that, no matter what industry. The best thing to do is keep moving forward and build skillsets that you can be happy with. Or switch to an entirely new industry, like medicine, trades or something else that is "essential". Corporate jobs are a dime a dozen and layoffs happen nearly every January within corporate... Even with companies whose stock and profitability is doing much better than ours.

Nothing that Raj or his cronies say, or anything that L5+ upper management says or does can be trusted from here on out. Regardless of whether anyone particular subset of management knew or not, this company has severed all sense of credibility or accountability at this point. If the CEO of a billion dollar company can go out and flaunt supposed profitability the very week before laying off 13% of their workforce, absolutely fu-k all can be trusted about how they plan on moving forward.

Everyone's job is up for grabs at this point. If it wasn't you this time, surely next RIF or the one after that will be the one to do it.

Anyone know why this one is called Living History. That sure is expensive. Is it alive? Will it last 60- 80 years?

Anyone over 200lbs would break this plexiglass thing on the right.

Last RIF manager was asking around to all their direct reports on slack just like everyone else to check if they were let go or not. Just because theyre a manager doesnt automatically make them some cartoon villain. They genuinely did not know until you get to the L6 level, and the L5 level tends to pick up on the hints before anyone below that.

Leadership continues to lie and pretend they were not involved in decision making. How many RIFs does Wayfair have to have before management takes responsibility for knowing these thing s

Former L4. I didn’t know officially about the Jan 20 RIF until the day of or that a member of my team would be let go. It really depends on level and the leadership there.

“As a manager”. You sound like Nancy Pelosi “As a Catholic”. No one is attacking just commenting.

It really depends on what you understand by 'managers'. L2s and L3s had no clue, as we are rarely involved in any type of decision making. L5+ I can agree they knew, best example can be postponding all Frontline Townhalls that were supposed to happen yesterday and today. But what do you expect to hear? 'yes, obviously we knew for weeks but couldn't say a word as this is highly confidential'. Obviously they gonna play the game they always play.

As a manager, I can confirm the information from today's email and that the first rumors appeared yesterday during the working day. The situation is difficult, I understand the anger, but there is no point in attacking.
