Big REVEAL at Town Hall is the NEW BRAND -- new colors and #empty promises that no one knows how execute!
Another woke brilliant idea from our bonobos CMO - Micky
I heard that firm is no longer promoting the song. It slowly moving a way from it. They didn’t even bring it up during the marketing town hall.
Also there is going to be big coming out at upcoming town hall I heard. Maybe T will announce that she stepping down and going to move into world of politics.
Roger easily has a platform that could reach this target demographic. Charlamagne mentioned Roger being one of his favorite Breakfast Club interviews as he was enlightened by their dialogue on financial literacy. Roger didn’t have to rap or try to act 40 years younger to fit in with the Breakfast Club audience. He was just his authentic self and spread good financial information to the masses.
I found this song to be offensive as it feeds into so many negative stereotypes on black people (…all black people have lived in low-income housing, all black people know or are affiliated with dr-g dealers, even negative connotations on literacy as one could insinuate by this campaign that the only way you can educate black people is through songs and raps).
I tried to assume positive intent or maybe misguided people in marketing that didn’t receive proper direction as they crafted this campaign. This song felt very much like a minstrel show specifically with the strip club “make it rain”, cash falling at the end of the live performance on the Tonight Show.
This comment is out of touch “You're telling me some rapper has a better platform to discuss retirement savings with African Americans than say someone like Roger Ferguson?” YES EXACTLY. What “platform” does Roger Ferguson have? A CNBC interview every other month? Marketing is just trying to reach younger audiences in new ways for TIAA. I ain’t saying it’s right, or this rap song will be a success, but to think young black people will magically listen to RWF or an ancient retirement company directly is outdated. Young people (and aging millennials, even aging Gen X-ers) get information from Instagram and TikTok and viral moments and influencers, it’s simply the way things work now. Could the moment have been better and cheaper than this song? Probably. But the tactic might be right
T Linkedin post doesnt say anything about concert. did they cancel it or are is she just gaslighting as usual
Pandering at its best! A shame that these 'woke', minority leaders are simply reinforcing the same old stereotypes and falling into the same race based trap they claim to be against. You're telling me some rapper has a better platform to discuss retirement savings with African Americans than say someone like Roger Ferguson? The soft bigotry of low expectations indeed!
Yeah. It's a mixed message. On the one hand it promotes a laudable idea of saving for retirement, but on the other hand it reinforces the stereotype that the only way to communicate cultural ideas with African Americans is through facile rhymes in a hip-hop song sung by former dr-g dealers. It also reinforces the wrong idea that talking about savings as a pathway to developing minority wealth is just that, TALK, and that if you REALLY wanna be successful and have some money and fame...be a coke dealer turned hip-hop impresario......like Pusha T. No thank you. I'd rather my son read about (and emulate) the life and work of a historically iconic educator like Booker T than listen to the aural flum di---e and false braggadocio of some bougie azz, du jour rapper like Pusha T.
HBCU’s definitely deserve to hear about investing and success, but they deserve to hear it from doctors, lawyers, engineers, educators and business owners, not from the same old racist stereotypes of black success. How did “Pusha T” make his money? He sold bricks of co----e and then became a rapper. That’s not who I want to see delivering any message on how to get ahead in the world.
HBCU deserve to hear it.. but do they fall into the Top Institutions list...hmmmm
So HBCUs dont deserve to invest there retirement savings?
Know your audience...
Only place T could get an audience for this awful marketing gimmick is at a HBCU.
"But let's focus on the wins, I'm tryna flourish from the flaws
My moms told me that I'm bigger than 'em all, so I took her to the mall
Told her pick up the first thing she saw
I ain't forget, I still gotta change the addy on your door"
This is truly embarrassing. TIAA has been dedicated to education and educators for a century and now they are promoting songs that mu---r the English language.
"I ain't forget"???? Without the willingness and ability to speak and write at least one language correctly, There is no virtue, equity or inclusion, nor should there be.
