Thread regarding DST Systems layoffs

Whats the most ridiculous thing you have ever seen at DST/SS&C?

I was told to keep the levelor blinds at a 45 degree angle - no more as associates would then want to look out the windows and not be productive.

A group in charge of employee motivation and spirit did a surprise conga line dance in front of a v.p. to impress him. In actuality they were more like company snitches, reporting anyone who was disgruntled. Can you believe grown adults Grovelled to this level and got paid while doing it?

I got lambasted by H.R. because I changed my automatic payroll deduction to a lower percentage for the united way. I needed the money. And it was my earnings. So why the big stink? If h.r. wants dst to get citywide recognition of employee united way donations, well give us big annual raises!!!!!

Late night programmers had brought tiny portable TV sets in to watch rather than work. They were the size of a large slice of bread. Predigital days. Oh and ordered huge pizzas

My manager never attended the out of town seminars. He golfed and shopped. Nobody cared.

I had to do my managers job for him. He was not technical, a bully and blind to everything. I quit. " it's not my day to watch him".

I saw numerous people fall asleep in meetings. These were technical meetings were numbers and Cobol routines were being discussed to prevent spaghetti coding and waste of processing memory. Nothing bad happened to them..They were allowed to sleep and only woke up when the meeting adjourned and people were leaving. I was amazed. At all my other jobs sleeping at work is a huge demotion. Or worse.

Employees that stayed for decades even though it was known they would NOT be promoted to management or any levels that commanded respect. They stuck around for the "pension plan", when any other company had a better plan, higher pay and less stress. Those people were just wasting their time. And yes, the hangers-on, and slackers, and time counters and lazy (as I call them) spent decades at DST - and NO HUGE PROMOTION! I am d-mbfounded by their self destructive behavior.

Smoking was allowed in the office when I worked there. It reeked of smoke. It got in my clothes and papers. Dst knew there were warnings from the government about smoking dangers. Wonder how many nonsmokers will eventually die if second hand smoke?

The weirdest thing : a Group Manager/or V.P.? ? who drank Tanqueray at his happy hours till he was bombed and all he did was try his best to gawk at the cleavage of his staff. We think he hosted the happy hours just so he could do that. He was single and a pe-v. Kept chanting how he disliked Walter Mondale and hope he lost the election. Goof ball that shoulda been working in a Kmart.
