Thread regarding Ford layoffs

No, Ford has exited so many racing series it is shameful. WRC no car platform in production to support the series and no corporate sponsorship. F1 is a joke. Gone from the Lemans series. Ford cannot even afford to sponsor other sporting events.

Racing used to mean something; yes it was always sales driven, but there were elements of it that brought in the element of danger and entertainment. Now all the cars and the drivers are the same. BOP, and the lack of charisma from the drivers ( just a bunch of kids of rich snobs who race these days). NASCAR had amateurism up till about the 90s, that was all eliminated by the main racing teams plus the subsequent next gen cars that priced out several teams. It’s no wonder why viewership is so down on NASCAR. There is no variety and subsequently it’s boring to even watch a race. I went to a race pre Covid and it was dead, attendance was horrid. I thought “we really spend money on this as a company, lol” As for the other racing series (F1, IMSA, Indy, etc) not much television exposure in the states. The Las Vegas Grand Prix was a joke, it just pi---d off a bunch of people, and they televised it at like midnight, sorry not staying up for that. Anything pure EV in racing will just ki-l whatever spectacle was left in racing. I suspect as they phase more of this in with all these marketing geniuses they will find even lower attendance and television ratings. Time for racing to just hang it up imho, does not equal any incremental brand exposure like it used to. That is if the stay the course they are on.

I don't believe Ford has the capital to sponsor any grass roots racing anymore (even their Ford M-Sport is mocked as only half a factory team. I guess Ford struggles enough to merely stay afloat) but many Ford cars are wonderful start for young drivers. (and Formula Ford, such)

Just look at Kalle Rovanperä's 1980s Ford Escort when he was an 8yo! He was so cute driving that blue Escort! And now he is a WRC champion.

Jimmy just wants to go racing all over the world and he wants our customers to fund his dreams. It is going to be great watching him make a fool of himself in Monaco on TV while you are dealing with yet another 5pm on Friday plant stopping quality issues.

I enjoy watching Ford compete in any road racing series. IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge is a favorite. I used to be a NASCAR fan but they lost me 10-15 years ago although I'm happy to learn Ford swept all three stock car championships. I try to watch Australian V8 Supercar/Trans Am racing when available. Rally coverage in the states seems hard to find. I don't know if this has already happened, maybe Ford should try a contingency program for grass-roots racers in an amateur series similar to Mazda and Nissan. Ford has a rich history in motorsports and I hope in continues din spite of the push for electrification.

Yes, I do cheer for Ford to win. The fact Ford still competes in the series they do is a wonder given the mindset of the people at the top/c-suite.

I think of it as cheering for more a nostalgic relic portion of a once great company.
