Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Did Cruise folks get severance?

If they did, I don't feel bad for them. GM is failing on all fronts and it's only a matter of time before it fails completely. Leaving now with some money in your pocket to help you through the job-search period is better in my opinion than losing your job down the line with no severance or any other protection.

The sharing economy means you will own nothing and like it. Ride sharing is a part of that and that’s why I sincerely hope it fails.

2 months of severance pay will get spent really fast when you have a family. Definitely won’t be enough to get by between jobs. The OP is disgusting.

"If they did, I don't feel bad for them."
THIS ISN'T A GAME and we are talking about real people with families in an economy where there are mass layoffs.
It's not going to be easy for those people to find work, especially at this time of year.
1,119 tech companies have laid off about 248,974 staff so far this year, compared to 249,611 layoffs last year. That's a trend and hundreds of thousands of people are all vying for the same work around the country. Just so you realize, when it's your time and GM hands you 2 months pay and sends you on your way, you will remember your words.
FYI: I have been on the outside looking in during the GFC. Industries had hiring freezes. When the unemployment ran out after 6 months the only work was low paying. Good luck and remember this conversation in the coming months.
