They also lay off small numbers of people continuously to stay beneath the radar

Both publicly, and among the other employees. A few people from each group doesn't draw attention.

That’s absolutely right! People have a tendencies to compare and enjoy other people’s successes and failures.

Now, the point is - will the actual number to get laid off just what gets announced publicly? More often than not, companies like GM are notoriously bad and take advantage to lay off as many as they can get rid of to make the rest do more for less…sad secret of corporate world!!

People get excited about other people getting laid off. Like it's a game.
It's exciting until it hits home though, and given the economic environment, more likely than many think.

This is old news. This was planned months ago. You would have known this if you actually worked for GM.

I wonder if anyone tallies up the true cost of a strike? I know it takes more than an occasional glance, and more like a yearly operating plan for a couple of years to figure it out. It would be interesting to see if shortly after each strike we see the re-balancing IE how a new contract really gets absorbed by the business... What models are dropped, what plants get closed, if a new plant is opened is it in another state? Stuff like that would be good to understand by everybody.
