Hearing massive EMEA layoffs to happen before year’s end. Anyone else hearing this?

SAS publicly announced that the TD Synnex agreement affects about 250 employees. A few of those layoffs could take place in December. However, most are covered by local laws that require months of notice.
SAS publicly announced that about 1%, or about 120 employees, would be affected in 2023. This includes the ~50 testers laid off in July.
That leaves at least 180 TD Synnex layoffs in progress, plus the reorg in Tech Support. So we can expect 200 or more layoffs in 2024, based on public statements.
Not to minimize anyone's pain -- but SAS is gentler than other companies. Epic Games laid off 16% this year, and Broadcom laid off thousands at VMWare. Good luck to all.

Sounds like there may be a lot more at stake than just the staff based in Beijing, if the earlier poster who mentioned the TD Synnex agreement has their facts straight.
This may be a cultural issue, not specific to SAS.
I don’t understand this China thread in the slightest…
When the managers talk to the GM, they begin with "Thank you boss" and end with "thank you boss" again, plus much of flattery and boast between the beginning and ending. They behave in that way tells that their position and award are not deserved by their ability and value. Those different managers that did not behave in that way had left or been removed.
Please not to forget, the testers and developers were hired by those managers. Bragging is popular, and who cares and who wants to point out? Who cares there are two or 20 headcounts behind a beautiful task/projects which actually could be done by 3 testers/developers?
300ish headcount’s in r&d Beijing center. At least two directors there had evacuated the work could be done after laying off more than one third.
It is unbelievable that the staff there is efficient and works hard, considering the whole SAS r&d atmosphere and the China management prefer submissive staff with low tech ability.
They could work hard with good leadership, but never can be efficient.
I heard that China R&D has been hard working and very efficient. When you said “China staff is wasting their time there with few contributions “, is it the projects they work on not contributing to SAS? What product they have been working on?
How many are employed (approximate total headcount) in Beijing R&D and other China offices?
Is the problem specific to the GM or it is general for all management in SAS China?
The testers and software developers in SAS China are very good and hard working.
“China staff is wasting their time there with few contributions to SAS or to this world”
Sad truth. Visitors can find the root reason is from the GM surrounded by a large group of submissive ladies of HR, admin, IT and PMs and …
The majority of employees in China center of R&D is innocent.
“Right decision, especially to make it happen in Beijing R&D and China offices.”
China staff is wasting their time there with few contributions to SAS or to this world and without any individual self-esteem. A layoff may be good for them to start new life.
I don't work for SAS anymore but I do keep in touch with my old colleagues in the UK. One is a senior exec and he said that since the partnership agreement with TD Synnex earlier in the year, he has been part of the planning process to massively scale back all customer facing roles across EMEA, and move to an MSP partner model early in 2024. He didn't think there would be mass layoffs this year, but definitely in Q1/Q2 next year. He said he expects it to be brutal.
In Asia the bigger holiday is Lunar New Year (for 2024 it starts on February 10) so laying off before Christmas is just a bit better than Lunar New Year timing wise but layoffs are always painful any time and much more so right before Christmas or Lunar New Year holidays. Hopefully the layoff rumour in December in EMEA is not true.
Right decision, especially to make it happen in Beijing R&D and China offices.
That would be surprising since there are only about 2 weeks left in the year! Did the rumors identify which roles or groups or?
