Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Do you feel bad that Nielsen is dying?

Am I the only one not giving a damn about this company drowning in debt and being outperformed by the competition? The reason I don't feel bad at all is that I was told I would be given a raise in October, then got laid off in September.

Am I a bad person celebrating this company's downfall?

We're all just victims of Capitalism. If you're not hostile, then you're not paying attention!

Not at all. Why? Well, for one, I stopped caring about Nielsen once Dave Calhoun and the rest of his band of corporate raiders came over form GE and demolished the place and ki-led the spirit and culture of one of American's greatest brands. That was 2007. Lol. Though I stuck around for a few more years there really isn't anyone left at the company I know, nevermind actually cared about. They are all long gone, retired, fired, passed away. Life moves on, folks. The ONLY thing you should ever care about is your friends and family. Co workers/companies come and go.

I don't feel bad for Nielsen, but I do feel bad for the employees. I worked there for 25 years and was let go during the first layoffs. However, I always knew that I would eventually be laid off. I was fortunate enough to find a much better-paying job with a company that treats its employees with respect. I wish all the best to my former colleagues and advise them to prepare for the worst, as it may still come. Good luck to all of you!

Nielsen was always a mediocre company at best. But once a company gets acquired by a private equity, everything changes, even a decent company might become unrecognized.
The private equity takes the revenue of the company, and it makes it get into more debt. And the funny thing is the private equity is not responsible for the debt lol.

The equity firm doesn't need to know anything about what the company does. It is a completely mechanical process indifferent to the industry.

If you want to feel bad about something, feel bad about the disillusioned people who still work there who think they are working for a healthy company.

Same here. Not only was I promised the raise for October, my performance rating was very high & my manager wanted to push for a higher raise for me & then I was shown the door in September.

Absolutely no need to feel guilty. It's not like Nielsen are saving lives... It's only media measurement FFS & at best a menial job. Upper management have shown a complete lack of interest or care & performance has been appalling. Competitors are showing that they can do it better & Nielsen will go under. The decline has been fast since they were bought a little over a year ago. Listen, Nielsen is not worth any thought or worry. For those still there & have been there for at least a few years or more, it's probably worth hanging on for the severance, depending on your circumstances, but if you're a shorter term employee, look elsewhere & soon.

Why would anyone feel bad? People just don’t want to lose their jobs.
