Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Leave of Absence

Has anyone taken (6+ months) personal or family related LofA during their time with the company? Will Chevron terminate an employment or it is possible to keep it?

Yes you get to keep your job, but the length of time you are able to take off without “penalty” also depends on how long you’ve been with the company….better double check on that.

@3njn, you are definitely a person who suffers from an inferiority complex. Whether you express this thought outward in your beliefs, like you just did here, or keep it inside, it will hold you back your entire life.

I have seen many people do it. If it’s still an up time when you come back you will have a job. If it’s a layoff time when you come back you will probable be in that layoff but who can predict when the layoffs will happen

The short answer: yes, it's possible. High-pots: no problem, as long as it's not longer than 6-12 months. Really 6 months, longer than that you're upsetting your pre-ordained career path. Everyone else: better have a sensible request and reason, mainly family issues. Even if you do get it, you are adversely affecting your career path. Don't believe that? Just ask any woman who took maternity leave over the last two decades.

There was a mcbu guy who took a year off to be with his girlfriend studying overseas. Came back and still kept his job. He is one of those people who don’t even look at your direction unless you are white, if you know what I mean. He still is.

It'a possible, but remember, "out of sight, out of mind".

I know several cases of employees doing this and they returned to no job. A lot can happen in 6 months or a year. Attempt that at your own risk.

Yes it’s allowed and can be up to 12 months long with the option to extend longer at the 12 month mark. Look up the “leave of absence without pay” policy on the intranet for the details. Employment is not guaranteed though and when it’s time to return, it depends what’s available. It’s likely you get put into a PDC to get placed and if you don’t get placed, you’re out.

They will allow you to take a sabbatical . It’s not about “perceived value” it’s a policy. Just call EAP and they will make it happen.

Many people have done this, but yes it will depend on your perceived value to the company and maybe the reason to you give HR. Your heath or caring for a loved one is high on their approved reason list, political activity is a maybe depending on your party affiliation (but they will never tell you that!), Sick to the f***ing Chevron way and looking for other opportunities might be a harder sell.

Yes o have seen people left for family reasons [one under the name of sabbatical]. They were granted 1 year or so time away. It all depends on you and how the company perceives you and your talent. All this was prior to Pandemic but I suspect the culture is still there and if you are worth it, you will be granted it. Hiring the right people is never easy.

Sure thing. MW took 15 months leave of absence to coach his favorite basketball team. He came back then got rated 3 as punishment then got promoted CEO 20 years later. It is possible. You may ask MW how he did it.
