Sign Your Severance Agreement

To my fellow colleagues who got laid off, I received an email from the separation resource site to sign the severance document. On a quick scan, it basically says you won’t initiate or participate in any legal actions against the company and if you do, you forfeit severance.

I’m having an attorney review it because they are a friend, but am most likely going to sign it in the next couple of days. Make sure you sign it if you want severance.

What legal action could you even do anyway? It’s “at will” employment. They can terminate you at any time and don’t have to have a reason. They don’t have to even offer you severance if they don’t want. You can also quit anytime and don’t have to give a reason. Works both ways. Take your lumps, sign the agreement, get your payment, move on with your life and onto the next big thing.

Had it reviewed. It’s not a bad agreement. If you are in any state other than CA or CO the options for doing better are slim to none.
