Either SAMR gave verbal confirmation of approval or said they do not have any more reservations to approve the deal - this happened in early october. Same time VMW stock hit 180$, is that a lie? NBC and other news media said China approval is coming any time. Everything was on track. BC moved ahead as planned. I guess BC had similar experience with SAMR for their previous acquisitions (they took the verbal approval as guaranteed). Then executive order came in, China did not give the written approval as promised, instead stopped responding. That's it. BC (and obviously VMW) got screwed by China!!!
It's over now. The deal is dead.

Difference between 140 and 180 is 17 billion dollars extra. HT will be glad to pay 1.5 and pull out. MD is just forcing HT with all the mess of offers and lying about bureaucratic delays and other BS?
No, it will not close by the deadline. A positive decision by China in the next 20 days is remote. What happens next is of course going into uncharted waters. By any chance we should have a pretty good idea by Nov 15 one way or another so hang tight for 10-12 days more.
