There is a time for passive language but when a company lays you off it needs to be stated as such.

Workforce reduction and layoffs are euphemisms. Worst of all is ‘expense event’.
Should have been stated "So many telented colleagues freed from their captor". Lol.
They are the same.
Workforce reduction is the company or group perspective. Layoff is the former worker’s.
