Hock Tan Getting China Approval Soon

https://seekingalpha.com/news/4029072-broadcom-ceo-met-with-chinese-officials-over-weeekend-amid-vmware-deal-report

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan met with Chinese officials over the past weekend as the company tries to win approval for its planned $69 billion acquisition of VMware (NYSE:VMW).

The meeting occurred in the U.S. as China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi was in Washington, DC to meet White House officials and members of the U.S. business community, according to a Dealreporter item on Thursday, which cited people familiar with the matter. It wasn't known if Tan and Yi met privately.

Broadcom's Tan is said to have "hammered out" a deal regarding the proposed acquisition of VMware (VMW) during the meeting, according to the report, which cited one source.

Final approval for the VMware (VMW) acquisition still rests with China's State Administration for Market Regulation. The deal needs to go through the "chain of command" in China before it's cleared by SAMR, Dealreporter said, citing one source.

Hock has the deal in the back of his pocket. He isn’t showing his confidence in closing the deal for no reason. He got verbal approval for VMWare that’s why he sent out offer letters early. He’s just waiting for deal to run thru china’s chain of command before being sent off for written approval by SAMR.

Likely the “scheduling conflict” was the lawyers stepping in and advising silence to avoid liability issues.

"unforeseen scheduling conflict“

Such BS. They would rather not discuss it. I can’t think of a single person who would be so critical that it had to be cancelled.

Instead let’s just treat our employees like shït. Especially the ones that were fired but now are supposed to continue working.

Good job VMware, good job.

This happened on oct 26th (last thursday). Hock Tan had to fly to DC, so he couldn't attend the VMware's company wide all hands meeting.

Nope. Hock was in an all-day sales review with the sales teams. He was in DC for that, but it wasn't for China. That was also already scheduled, so it wasn't the "unforeseen scheduling conflict" about the all-hands.

Xi will not come to US. This is just BS. Not sure what BC end game is. How long they want to drag this fake acquisition between left and right hand of Silverlake. Probably forever. No one will be able to cash out for a long long time.

Leaked fake news so shareholders who can’t fn trade done start threatening lawsuits

When China approves the analysts will be all over it. Hocks posturing and hot air that comes out of his mouth is exhausting

The likely concession is for Broadcom to break the US sanctions and sell them the chips that are forbidden, or provide them with technology and materials to build them. This is not trolling, as it is condition that China has been asking of the chip companies recently as concession. The White House, CIA, FBI, and CFIUS should keep a close eye on what "concession" Hock Tan has promised

What if there was no concessions? Do you fools realize China never stopped Hock from hostile takeover of Qualcomm? It was US. Why would China stop him? For all I know he can be best friends with the Chinese regulators. Nobody knows what he said to get the deal approved but he got the job done while you all speculate what he did to get it approved 🤣. First everyone was saying China won’t approve and celebrating. Now they’re creating confirmation bias here saying Broadcom put in concessions to get the deal approved. You guys are all clowns and this is why Hock Tan is acquiring your company. To get rid of fools that make excuses and sit on their a-s all day. He didn’t show his confidence in closing this deal if he didn’t know something. He’s making you all look stupid now 🤣

But no mention whether Ministry of foreign affairs actually given approval. Also, verbal approval may change any time.

Fake news and click bait titles.

There is no timeline and not all regulatory body approvals have been completed. Do we think China is d-mb? They don't know how to give approval to companies operating in their country? Wake up folks! Actions is all that matters. China will not give approval any time soon. Intel leadership met with China several times and supposedly a deal was to be given the green light by CCP. We all saw how that deal fell apart. There's no facts and China isn't holding up the deal because of "bureaucratic reasons."

The only thing that matters is if china actually approves the deal, which it has no incentive too. Every story like this is just an attempt to keep the stock price up.

We about to find out in a couple days if it’s fake news or you just bi--hing 🤣🤣

Question: What are the likely concessions that the Chinese government will demand, and how will that affect the number of layoffs planned at VMware?

Answer: There are costs associated with compliance and AVGO never absorbs acquisition costs; instead they cut costs (headcount) in order to retain their profit margin for the deal to close. This calculation was also included in prior concessions (e.g. EU demands).
